    Anchor Shackle

Hi Martin, It's my understanding that bow shackles are better suited when Pulling loads are multiple directional. Still the load strengths are decreased as the load moves from a straight pull to a side pull. Straight shackles are designed for straight pulling. When we retrieve our anchors or...

How heavy is the lower unit on the BF150?

I just did this. The weight coming out wasn't bad but the unit is awkward. I had to use the trim so the unit would clear the ground. Remove the prop first also. Some of the bolts came out hard. Clean them up with tap and dies before reassembly. Replacing the impellers was pretty basic, use...

    Fastener installation into epoxy

It's been my experience to first drill a small pilot hole then use a counter sink to chamfer the gelcoat larger than the drill you will be using. Otherwise the gelcoat can crack or pop off. This makes for a nice clean hole in the fiberglass.

    LED Nav Lights

On a side note to those of us that return to our boats at night, Cruising Solutions, offers LED anchor lights that will turn on automatic for around $35. While cruising Mexico we installed one on our mast and just left the anchor light switch in the on position.

    Dreamer Moving to Warmer Waters

Roger, I have enjoyed reading your posts and benifited from your improvements made to Dreamer. We have been Tomcat owners for 3 years and have really enjoyed the boat. We boat in the Channel Island area and store the boat in Ventura. Was wondering who the new owners are so we can keep and eye...

    09/22 Lake Powell 2012

What a great time Donna and I had with the group. We did finally get to Rainbow Bridge on the way out. Sure did get blustery and wet while in the marina the last night. Hope all the members made it through the storms alright. What a great gathering.

    Storage in s. Calif.

Just used Sunset Aquadics. Left the truck and trailer for 10 days. They called me while we were at Two Harbors. Try this number (562) 592-2833. The number on the website did not work for me either. Their rate is 12.50 per day. Not sure about the Rv.

    Honda 150 Maintenance

Was searching for info about the thermostats on our 2007 Honda 150 and came across this thread. My question is, the two thermostats have different temps stamped on them. One is 60 degree C and the other is 50 degree C. On Boats.net, they list two thermostats with two different part numbers...

    4200 Sealant Storage

I have been storing my varnish paint brushes wraped in foil in the freezer for years. They will last several months. Sure saves time and thinner. However I haven't had to varnish anything since we sold the sailboat and bought the Tomcat. Dave

    Any L.A. C-Brats out there?

Hi Simon, I'm located in Thousand Oaks. Are you looking at the 22' in La Puenta? If so that's on the other side of L.A. from me, which would be around 150 miles round trip. I noticed they only had one picture of the boat, try to get at least a dozen pictures if you can. Also see if there...

    Freshwater Wash-down Tank

Steve, We have plumbed the on board wash down pump on our Tomcat to be switched to the boats fresh water system. Before we pull the boat out of the salt water and there is no fresh water available at the ramp we find a place to top off our fresh water tank in the marina. Then by running the...

    music, ipod, dc outlet

For those that do not know this. I have found that if you buy a 120 volt ac device that is connected to a converter box that states input 120 volts ac output 12volts dc you can cut off the cord at the box and then connect directly to a 12 volt source. We have done this with Tv, DVD, flashlight...

Tow vehicle mileage, real world #s

We recently towed our Tomcat (10,500 lbs) from So Cal to Annecortes WA. 2007 Chevy Diesel averaged 10-11 mpg. We get 20 mpg when empty. Best part of towing with this truck besides the power is the Allison transmission. We seldomly have to use the brakes while descending grades. After 6 weeks...

Vibration / Noise Norcold Refridge on a TC 255

Ours was making vibration noise at the latch. Disassembled and stretched the spring, that did it. We also put a lot of fiberglass insulation around it. Now we sleep very soundly. We are on a six week trip to San Juans & desolation sound. Dave

    Rule 1100 Question

I just replace the starboard Rule Mate 1100 on our boat. Besides the cracked housing I found a debris screen located in the basket and it was fully blocked. Beware the new Rule 1100A basket is a different shape. The new pump will not snap into the old basket. On the Tomcat it was a real task...

    Reverse Polarity Problem

PROBLEM SOLVED-Hey thanks for all the input. It was all very helpful. After talking to the Guest Battery tech and emailing previous owner it caused me to double check the wiring of the charger. Turns out the marina were the boat was kept had recently installed a new charger and had...

    Reverse Polarity Problem

I purchased Dr. John's Tomcat recently. We trailered it to the west coast from OK last week with no problems. Have been going through the boat in the driveway and am finding most of the systems working. However when I supplied the boat with shore power from the Honda 2000 everything worked...
