    Garmin autopilot install question?

I'm so late to the party this year and hope to get Shearwater in the water this weekend. Did a last minute purchase and picked up a Garmin GPH-10 autopilot so have been heads down with the install (write up coming soon). The question Has anyone installed an AP and bled the system? The very...

Been looking at pics of all the mods you have done

WOOD it's the material of choice for those little do it yourself projects. Go to Lowes or Home Depot and get finished project wood, as Pat said Red Oak works well. stevej

    comfortable sleeping on a c-25

I second the thermarest pad under the vberth mattress, makes for a very comfortable bed. I also use a shorter thermarest under the table cushions lifts up the seat by an inch or so and take the harshness out of big bumps. stevej

automotive vs fiberglass [gelcoat] waxes and cleaners

No need to use the marine stuff. I use 3M automotive rubbing compounds from the local Baxter autoparts store. Most any outlet that deals in automotive paint supplies will have 3M rubbing compounds. Word of advice if you have oxidation issues, start with a heavy rubbing compound (#1 in the 3M...

    22 Ft. C-Dory Crusier

Jeff, I own a 25 but I don't think the 22 gives away much if any from a "seaworthy" perspective. Have spent a fair amount of time off the Oregon coast doing the salmon, tuna, halibut thing and there are a number of 22 footers that run out of Newport. Just can't recall a time when I passed one so...

    removing the plug...

Amanda, the original "cruise ship" 95/96 era has a different deck than the new run of 25's. Below is the best picture I have. View from the cabin door. Two side lockers between a large "fish locker" that had a drain plug prior to the transom rebuild. The forward locker (back most halibut is...

    removing the plug...

I had the drain plug removed from Shearwater when the transom was redone. The original "cruise ship" does not have a bilge to speak of so I elected to remove, never used the plug in 6 years and don't miss it now that it is gone. It's easy to bail what water gets into the center fish locker that...

    CD25 with 200 or 175 E-Tec?

The 200 on Shearwater is a "small block" 2.6 L. It would be difficult to justify going with the "big block" 3.3 L 200 H.O. on a C-dory. The 150 H.O is still a 2.6 L tuned to H.O. levels I suspect that the tune would place it just below the standard 2.6 L 175hp. For the most part I believe that...

    CD25 with 200 or 175 E-Tec?

Just finished the second season with a 200 e-tec on my 25. 200 hours with no problems and very pleased with the motor. If I were to do it again I might go with a 175 hp e-tec. The power curve would be a bit lower in the RPM band with best economy around 3600 RPM . My 200 is most efficient...

Good Deal on Webasto Heater from Nick at Interstate in Iowa

Sure marine service is the place to go for espar or webasto stuff. http://www.suremarineservice.com/ They went way beyond expectations in helping me get my ebay "score" webasto up and running. The unit was a never been used older model 7500 watt 11,000 BTU heater and a bit of a challenge from...

    Outboard Choice, 2010

My ETEC has been great just hitting the 200 hour mark and very pleased with it. 200 hp at 427lbs NEMA 2000 is a must have these days 2 or 4 stroke I can troll for salmon all day with it , what a kick 1.6 to 2.4 mph at idle using .16 gph 10 mpg hell I could make it almost half way to Hawaii. Just...

Anybody Have an Espar Airtronic D2 Diesel Heater?

The systems are really made to mount in a stern location with all of the ducting running forward so I looked at a the back deck mounting option. Mounting outside the cabin would require a very good watertight enclosure, then you still need to deal with heated air intake duct, heated air output...

Anybody Have an Espar Airtronic D2 Diesel Heater?

Pat, I installed a 3500 watt Webasto in Shearwater and looked very long and hard at the D2's. I was afraid that the D2 at 2K watts might not be enough heat on cold days so went with the bigger system. Might be somewhat overkill but so far have not seen any problems with short cycling the few...

Would you mix radial and bias ply tires?

Thanks for the input everyone. Looks like the safe route is to not mix the types. Pulling the boat to Newport today so I will run with the spare on this trip and deal with it later. stevej

Would you mix radial and bias ply tires?

Becoming a little disgruntled with Les Schwab’s these days. On my last trip to Newport one of my Continental bias ply tires (less than 2000 miles on it) had the tread separate from the casing on I-5. The tire had been running a little hotter than the other three at about 114 degrees as opposed...

    Posi-Lube vs Bearing Buddies

Lloyds, the sure lube system is intergraded into the spindle design and I believe a much better than the aftermarket systems. http://k0swi.microlnk.com/2BUYRIGHT/MS/HUBS/Sure%20Lube%20Greasing%20System.htm The excess grease exits through a passage drilled into the spindle so the chance of...
