    Windlass reinstall

Not sure if this method (using butyl tape) is appropriate for re-bedding the windlass, but I'd sure consider it. http://www.pbase.com/mainecruising/rebe ... are&page=1

    lug crimper needed

my wiring project is going to require me to crimp several 2-6 AWG lugs. I'm wondering if anyone in the north Puget Sound area has a crimper they wouldn't mind lending or renting for a weekend? jd

    wire gage questions

Les, that really helps, thanks for the response. The 18' of run is the total length (one way) from the batt switch to the motor. The length of the spliced-in cable is about 20' round trip. I was able to get hold of a 2011 Yamaha rigging guide that specifies 2AWG for 13-22' of total round trip...

    Battery Switch Location

If I were to install an Add-a-Battery system and connect the alternator output from my kicker directly to my starter battery, would I then not have to worry about both the kicker and the main motor running (and charging) at the same time? jd

    wire gage questions

Previous to my ownership, the batts in my boat were moved to under the aft galley seat. In doing so, two SAE 8 gage wires were run from the "common" battery switch post to the (+) side of a fuse block in the lazarette. The length of the cable run is about 12 feet. I'd like to replace those two...

    ADVICE NEEDED; Safely removing swim-step.

Nice job, Mark. Now are you REALLY going to drill holes on the other side? I've been contemplating doing some gelcoat repairs myself. I'd be willing to buy some surplus repair materials from you if you had any left over. jd

    Lewmar V700 windlass installation

I'm thinking about the installing the windlass control box that Les and Joe describe. Is it better to locate the solenoid near the batteries (under the aft dinette seat in my case) or near the windlass? Or does it matter either way? jd

    How about...a Marinaut 25?

For me, when I find myself thinking about a 25' C-Dory, I always get jolted back to reality when I realize I'd need a bigger truck. Since I have no intention of buying a bigger truck just so I can tow a boat, a 25' Marinaut w/the specs Les is talking about just might be do-able. jd

    09/05 - 09/11 - Lake Roosevelt cruise

Left Mount Vernon about 10:00 on Monday. Traffic was awful westbound over the pass, but we had clear sailing eastbound. Made it as far as Fort Spokane before heat and fatigue got to us. We put in at Kettle Falls on Tuesday about noon. Headed south to near Barnaby Islands. Spent a nice evening...
