    Trailer winch: cable or strap?

For those rare (hopefully) cases I would simply extend the strap with one of my (heavy duty) dock lines. Double it up if in doubt. But then, I'm mean :-) M

    Trailer winch: cable or strap?

I have read some posts on people using this http://www.amsteelblue.com/ instead of wire cable but cannot comment from own use. Merv

    Trailer winch: cable or strap?

I have used both on the RF246 and would comment :- 1. Cable is very hard to rewind evenly, will kink and/or jam eventually and you WILL get nasty bits of very sharp, rusty steel in your fingers. 2. If you use an electric winch, it will NOT lock in the fully wound position like a manual winch...

    Carbon monoxide detectors

Barry, They are now required in houses in WA, maybe that's what led you astray. (Or are you living on your boat now  ) On the topic of CO detectors on boats be aware they do not last forever!! Mine were time expired so I went to the "Toy Shop" to get new ones and found that the one (and...

    01/25 - 01/27 - 2013 Seattle Boat Show

I keep looking at the Album of "Boats on Display" and am amazed to find that most of them have two legs and a big smile :-) Did anyone take any pictures of the aquatic version ?? I can quite understand not showing anything from the Tap room, what happens there, clearly stays there  M

Another arc at the shore power plug

Mine was even easier than Roger's as the orginal receptacle had the same hole size(s) as the Smart Plug and the orginal rigger was even "smart" enough to allow enough slack wire to pull the whole assembly out and get at the rear end. Otherwise I would have been looking for a 1'6" Gnome with...

Another arc at the shore power plug

David, I changed the boat end plug and receptacle to the "Smart Plug" last year and found the instructions that came with the kit to be very complete and easy to follow. Hardest bit was physical access to the existing receptable(in my case). Well worth the money for peace of mind if your boat...

    Raising Wallas stove.

You might need to check if the Wallas can actually draw fuel from the tank up to the new height. It's been a while since I had one of these so I don't know what the max figure is. I do know that if you ever get air in the supply line it might take you a certain number of "tries" to get it...

Using volt meter to show battery status.

I agree. I have found the Victron to be extremely easy to fit and it gives a much more detailed and correct indication of what is happening and how much charge you have left. Much better than simply reading voltage. M

    needed. raymarine update chip v4.30

Tom. I concur with Bill. I have never used a Raymarine reader and it worked just fine. Can't lay my hands on it right now or I would send one of the dogs over with it :-) On edit. Has anyone tried simply downloading it and dumping on a chip using the reader built into a laptop ??? Can't see why...

GPS error grounds US Navy minesweeper

Tom, You could add the passenger ferry that got stuck in the Port Townsend canal yesterday apparently citing "confusion" about which side of a red Bouy he should have passed. Take a look at the chart...Seems to me that when there is a red one and a green one, then you go between them in the...
