    08/20 - 08-26 - Catalina Adventure in Paradise 2006

The Honda tech showed up yesterday. Lots of good news. It is the starter. It is under warranty. It is about the only repair that can be made at the dock. A new one will be installed Thursday or Friday. The metal from the starter gear dropped harmlessly into a void. The flywheel is okay...

The Honda Tech never made it to Dive Cat Friday or Saturday, so the diagnosis has not been confirmed, nor the parts ordered. I'll be down there first thing on Monday. IF they can get to it, and IF it's quick enough, we MAY be able to come over late in the week. Bob Cat

Regular gas was 3.27 this morning at the Chevron station. Ralph's grocery store is open 24/7 across from the station. It usually has block ice. Starbucks is open at 0600 just down from the Ralph's. West Marine is at the south end of the center, at Lincoln and Fiji. Bob Cat

We have to be back on Thursday, so we'll either have eaten the key lime pies or we'll leave them for the remaining gathered. Bob Cat

Steve, Look for the Chevron station next to the McDonalds at Lincoln and Mindinao, on the northeast corner of the intersection. Main entrance to the marina is one blk south on Lincoln at Fiji. There is a Shell station there, but it is too small to maneuver in. Go west on Fiji to the ramp...

    08/20 - 08-26 - Catalina Adventure in Paradise 2006

Jim, Generally, the westerly wind kicks up aound noon and builds, so you get a pretty good chop, sometimes on top of a 1-3'swell at 8-9 secon intervals. There has also been a smaller south swell at 11-12 secs. The heading to the isthmus begins at 180 or so then changes to 160 after Palos...

Steve, I'd bring 1 tank each and refill on my boat when we're around, especially if you're diving among the boats on moorings. We'll be over Sunday. I've got 3 80's and a 60 to share. Roger has 1 80 reserved. There should be plenty to go around. We're leaving Wednesday. Bob Cat

    TomCat 255 Magnetic Compass

I installed mine in a spot directly above the wheel on the sloping surface. Excellent visibility. I'm sure there is some deviation when I have all the electronics on, but it doesn't appear to be anything radical. Anyway, I generally steer with the gps/plotter or the autopilot. If these have...

Port side front window leaks on TomCat

Water came in my port side widow too, when I accidently left it open during washdown. Lots of extra work cleaning that one up. Seriously, water hasn't come in my window frame seal or glass gasket, but it did leak in through the holes drilled through the deck for the hand rails forward. The...

    TOMCATS: So, whatcha do . . .

I know the weekend isn't over, but I had a busy day waxing the hull, fueling up, installing a 34" horizontal rail across the transom between the engines on the 45 deg part, installing brackets on the outside lip of the center of the swim step for 30" vertical hand holds for diver egress, and...

We don't have a dinghy, but we do have a kayak. Can we enter in the kayak division? Katy and I will be going over on Monday and returning on Wednesday. I just dived Ship Rock last weekend and it was great, even with a strong current. All you scuba folk need to ding over to Dive Cat for...

    TOMCATS: So, whatcha do . . .

Trip Report: We left Friday morning at 1015 headed for the west end of Catalina, the first leg of a 4 day journey. Slow going with very choppy, confused conditions. The boat was very heavy with gear and supplies, full tanks plus 10 extra gallons, 2 big coolers with 60 lbs of ice. Hard to...

Hi, Bob Congrats on delivery of Thataway! Sounds like the trailer solution worked out real well. Lookin' forward to many pics and updates. First real dive trip scheduled with a good friend for next weekend on Dive Cat. 2 days to Catalina, San Clemente and Santa Barbara. Taking lots of ice...

    TOMCATS: So, whatcha do . . .

I can't imagine what might be going through your mind, Mr. Byrdman, so let me splain . . . In the Auxiliary there are operational qualifications, like Crew, Coxswain, and 5 year renewal programs that require certification by a Qualification Examiner, or QE. The QE is an experienced coxswain...

    TOMCATS: So, whatcha do . . .

Dive Cat was used as a CG Aux Facility this weekend in Long Beach for crew and coxswain qualifications and member currencies. Had a great time doing search patterns with very precise turns and good looking tracks on the gps. Installed a large cleat on the port stern so every side tow line has...
