    Scar Fish

From the missing adipose fin, that looks to be a hatchery-reared fish. If the wound was incurred in the hatchery it would have been hard to see at the time of release. If released as sub-yearlings, which is typical, they're around 50-75mm long at that point. jd

    Shipping to Alaska

I was recently quoted $2/mi by Cory with Sharps. That's in the neighborhood of $5-6K from east coast to PNW. I can't personally justify that. jd

    moving batteries forward

The previous owner of my boat moved the batt's to under the aft dinette seat. I cleaned up the install, and added the windlass solenoid relay. This configuration is very easy to access and work on and provides great weight distribution. jd

    Oil changes on long cruises.

not sure if this works on anything but Yamaha's, but a 3/4" corrugated bilge pump hose fits perfectly into the rubber boot on the oil drain port. No fuss-no muss. jd

Changing oil while on a cruise.

On my Yamaha 115 it is nearly impossible to change the filter without making a huge mess, unless you do two things. Do it with the oil cold, i.e. with most of the oil drained out, and use a phillips screwdriver (or similar sharp instrument) to make a hole in the lower outside edge of the filter...

Bay Star vs. Sea Star on 22 Cruiser: Understanding the diffs

I kind of create topic summaries on my own for my purposes. I'll do an exhaustive thread search on my topic of interest, and cut/paste passages from posts into a Word doc. I include poster attribution in case I want to ask followup questions of the original poster. For me, it's a way to sort...
