    Seasport rumor

Gosh, I have a Ranger, not a C-Dory... Maybe I should not be reading this list, eh?

    Tomcat paint

I talked to Pettit about bottom paint for Levitation, where it will be in and out of the water... They instantly said Vivid...

    Binoculars with built-in compasses

I just went through the drill... Looked up all the binocular reviews... Coveted Steiners and Nikons and Zeiss... Drooled over the stabilized, lebenty zillion power stuff... Then sat down and thought it through and realized that I needed two pair of binoculars... One, relatively inexpensive...

    SNOW

ahhhh, ya wimps! We got another 10" here in mid Michigan last night... Only thing I said this morning as I busted trail at oh dark thirty, with the 4X4 smashing into drifts as high as the headlights was, "yeee haaaa" while the powder exploded 20 feet in the air... Looked just like rollers...

Ummm, how many wheels does your trailer need to pull the GB?

    America's cup

Well, my grumpy old self notices the really wimpy race condition limits... In a real mans world, the race would be on a certain date and weather be damned - first one across the finish line wins! Yes, these racing machines are awesome, but there is no way I would take one across an ocean -...

    A lesson to be learned...

I have followed this group for some years now, dreaming of no longer working (hasn't happened yet)... Because of what I read here I was actively shopping for a Tom Cat - but, then the bad news started and production stopped... About that time I became interested in the Rangers (from reading...

What did you see at the boat show?

Byrdman, they need to give you a hundred bucks for that rainbow picture for their ads...

    Yikes!

I strongly suspect in the OP's case, where he states that the electrical load was minimal, that there were broken strands in the cord, in the coiled up portion, that caused a 'hotspot' heat buildup to the critical point that ignited the insulation... At higher amperage draws it would be prudent...

    Using the compass or not?

We have all the same electronic goodies in aircraft that these boats have, plus having VOR and ILS magic boxes to lead us to an airport and guide us to the ground... Still, it is against the law to leave the ground without an installed compass that has been swung and has a correction card...

Will it rain in Southern California?

Yup, two seasons in California, either the hills are on fire, or they are sliding into the valley... I expect news about Haiti to be displaced by flooding and avalanches in California... denny-o - in flat, boring, meeeshegun

SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

Nyaaaa, that'll "buff right out!" Anyway, to keep the thread on track, I pulled the teak doors off the cockpit cabinet and I am sanding on them as they were peeling varnish (1 year old!) In the next week or so Levitation will be off to the tent and awning company for cockpit canvas... Then I...

    Loran C Demise

I certainly hope that the Pentagon has it's head out in the sunshine on this decision (as opposed to where it normally is)/// Yes, GPS wonderful... but! But do you know that for $204.77 you can build a relatively simple jammer that will take out the GPS for a hundred miles in every direction...

136-foot tug grouded on Bligh Reef PWS AK

No accident is usually just one wrong decision... An accident is normally the culmination of a series of bad decisions taken one after another... Abort any one of those serial bad decisions and the 'accident' doesn't happen... Now, I don't claim to be the expert, but over the years I have...
