How Do You Install a Bronze Screw-in Bilge Drain

The method I use upon pulling the boat is to remove the plug to drain and place it on the dash right above the steering wheel while I do tinker stuff, tie downs, etc. then put the plug back in before driving away... At home, if the boat is outside in a rain I pull the plug at supper time and...

    Garmarine or Raymin?

Because, they can? And because they have... I bought the very first general aviation GPS on the market, the Pronav 100.. And I do mean the very first - it was the Pronav demo unit at OSHKOSH, serial #1... Two years later, Garmin had formed and wanted into the GPS market, NOW, so they bought...

    Volcanic Glass

I have noted this point on some pilot chat groups... The ash is suspended high up and jet engines which have to fly high to reduce fuel burn and which inhale massive amounts of air are heavily affected... There is far less ash in the middle altitudes such as 15,000 feet where piston engines...

    Boat pricing...

This is just the beginning, not the peak of the problem... Cheap and easy industrial credit has vanished, probably forever, and the increased cost of borrowing money has to be covered by the end customer... Now, I can hear the greek chorus saying, jeez interest rates on borrowed money are...

The Cruising Adventures of Wild Blue and crew...

Jim, in reading this thread I had a visual flash of you with an 8X10 folding camera and the blond with a back pack of film holders, hiking into the wilderness... You know, with a black plastic tent for a darkroom and a couple of trays you could process the negatives... Contact print them on...

    Better and better

I was taught that you shold always learn three 'pearls' from any educational seminar... SO, what did we learn from this discussion... 1. A 16 is easy to launch, and is really nice just loafing along above an idle. 2. A whole lotta guys can camp in a small boat if they really want to. 3. A...

    Rechargable garden lites (auxillary anchorlite?)

The problem with the cheapies is the anemic nicad battery in them runs out of juice long before dawn... If you like to tinker, open them up and replace the battery with one of a higher amp hours rating - Ebay is a good source for better nicads, also Harbor Freight, etc... Depending on the style...

3.8 million dollar jury award against Brunswick--be aware

As far as juries in the USA, their aggregate IQ is roughly 94 and any lawyer with an IQ higher than that can get a ham sandwich convicted for causing obesity... If and when these unsane jury awards begin to throttle commerce in the USA, then the collapse of large corporations will put pressure...

The Cruising Adventures of Wild Blue and crew...

Jim, is the dearth of boats operating out there due to seasonal, financial, or security hassles / HSA... ? This morning I flew over the 450 slip marina I will use this summer and there are 3 boats in the water (3, count em) It will, of course, pick up as the weather warms onto summer, but I...

    Using the compass or not?

I have a flux gate compass on Levitation... The sensor is mounted at the forepeake of the Vee Berth... Now, the chain bundle is right in front of it and you would think that it would befuddle the sensor, but the flux gate agrees with the GPS (when corrected for declination) and with the whiskey...

    2 burner electric cooktop

Mt wife, who doesn't speak boat, loves the electric two burner - of course we are plugged in at the dock... I am adding a gimbal propane unit that clamps to the cockpit rail, for when we finally get to go cruising...

    Optima blue top

The real claim to fame of these gelled-electrolyte/glass-mat-separator/rolled-plate batteries is their low internal resistance... A battery is a voltage source in SERIES with it's internal resistor... When you short the battery terminals together (like what happens in the first split second...

    Boat Explodes On Columbia River

I have mentioned this before.. We had lunch in Cleveland with our daughter and son in law at a restaurant on the river... Good looking classic 1960's wood cruiser was moored about 20 feet from us and we commented about how the classic boats still are attractive ... After lunch we briefly did...

First Post, Looking to buy a 255TC

Brian, I put considerable time and research into broadband radar and decided in the end to pass on it... Peruse the website at PANBO.COM and read their write up on broadband... It is promising but not ready for prime time... In addition to the MFD you mentioned take a look at the latest...

Eco Extortion and threat to boatyards on Puget Sound

Assuming, that I as a boatyard owner know that I am controlling NEW copper leachates since the inception of the NEW standards by banning open air grinding, traps under boats being painted, settling basins, etc. I would round up my fellow boatyard owners and the boat owners using the yards and...

    Seasport rumor

Thread drift, thread drift! Well, I just finished pulling Levitation from her warm berth in the barn and trailering over to the canvas shop (20 miles)... I noticed her looking around (search light was surveying the snow banks) as we finished hooking up the trailer wiring and checking the turn...

    Unintended Acceleration Issue

This is the AIRBUS SYNDROME that has been talked about for years, finally happening - electronic control with no mechanical connections between the pilot/driver (in this case) and the engine or flight controls... Do a Google on A330 or Airfrance and Airbus crashes... Look, our computer programs...
