    Water-powered generator

While it might not make sense for a boat, I have thought of putting one of these in the river in front of my house to supplement our power. I just can't see spending the big $$ they want for the thing.

    After Market Swim Platform?

Marty, those are both the same. :) Just as an FYI: Much of the problem on my 27's transom is due to the Swim Platform bolts and outdrive bolts not being sealed correctly. Make sure if you install one to drill a larger hole than needed and fill it back up with epoxy. Then once the epoxy has...

My Transom Repair Project on my 1983 27

If I don't get this thing done soon. You just might get the project for a really low cost. SHMBO is putting serious pressure on me to get it fixed :(

My Transom Repair Project on my 1983 27

Man I wish Pat! I used to have a similar sign on my Toolbox when I was working as a Mechanic. Except I had 1 more line. $500/hr if you worked on it and I have to fix it :)

My Transom Repair Project on my 1983 27

Tom, Just in this section of the Transom. If you look at the picture, you will see where the section above the cutout is raised slightly. This section is Glass/Balsa Endgrain/ Glass. It looks like they added the second raised section (the part I am replacing) after the fact.

26ft anglers, yes theres 2 of them!

I never found out what the configurations were of the 24 boats. I know that Aiviq had a 4 cyl I/O (he upgraded to a 4.3l Mercruiser I/O), Mine had a V6 and the picture of the one below mine has an I/O. Sea Cowboy has an outboard or Seadrive if I recall correctly. The only true inboard I know...

26ft anglers, yes theres 2 of them!

Dave, My '83 was actually built in 03/82 and is hull #003. I've been told that there were 24 of the 27' boats made and they were all custom. Here is a picture of mine. Here is a picture of one I found on the internet a while back (I think it was in AK) Sea Cowboy was another 27 that showed...

My Transom Repair Project on my 1983 27

David, I'll be going with an I/O and a 4.3l V6. Originally it had a Volvo Penta AQ175 with a Penta 280 outdrive. The AQ175 is a Chev 231cid V6. Since I couldn't find an exact replacement block I decided to go the inexpensive way and ordered up a 4.3L long block from Chevrolet. My outdrive is in...

Change of storage tank use - diesel to gasoline

On more than one occasion I have had to empty out diesel from a cars gas tank to put in gasoline. We never worried about completely draining the tank. We simply got as much out as we could by siphoning it out, then filled it back up with gasoline. The car might have smoked a little for the first...

My Transom Repair Project on my 1983 27

I finally got some time this summer to work on the boat. Since I already have the engine out, I decided to pull the Transom Shield off (yes this is an I/O) to reseal it and check the transom for rot. Once I removed the transom I found the balsa core was rotted around the bottom two mounting...

    Rod Holders

Don, Since you already have the Scotty mounts, look at the Scotty Orca rod holders. They imitate the Folbe. If you look at the video on the Folbe link above, you will see why they are so nice. When a fish is hooked, simply lift the rod straight up and it easily comes out of the rod holder...

    Rod Holders

IMHO the best rod holders from a fishing standpoint are made by FOLBE. http://www.folbe.com/ they allow you to quickly/easily pull the rod from the holder when you have a fish on. Yet hold the rod securely while trolling. Scotty has now imitated the FOLBE design.

Ocean Salmon Season Setting Process Begins for California

Actually, I don't believe that is quite right IRA. I think CCA is an East Coast organization that was extended to the west coast with a big push by Gary. Either way it seems like it is finally doing some good things in Washington for our fisheries. IMHO the ONLY way we're going to save Salmon...

Where do we get GE 90 12V H3 light bulbs?

An "H3" bulb is your standard "Halogen Fog Light" bulb. You should be able to pick one up at any auto parts store. You can get them in various wattages as well.

Everett - This Weekend - Fishing Suggestions

Tom, Area 10 opened for Blackmouth recently. I heard that there are a few out there. Also, it looks like the South Marina Area 8-2 and area 9 fisheries are open for everything BUT Chinook. So you could hit up Possession for some late Silvers and Chum. Good luck if you go out!

Stop me before I vote for Rossi

Harvey, Thanks for the heads up on the Reel News article. I'll have to see if I can get a copy of it. Even though I'm a member, I've never gotten one in the mail. As for gov... Well I don't much care for either, but since Gregoire is in cahoots with the tribes, that only leaves Rossi worth...

    Saltwater Fishing Reel

I still love my old Penn 209's. They have great drags on them and they are pretty much bullet proof. Of course they are far different than the new ones. Mine were manufactured in the early '70s. Beware that these reels are slow with a speed of 2.x:1. But that never cost me a fish :) Currently I...

    How important is four-wheel-drive?

I wouldn't be caught dead without 4x4 as my boat towing rig. Of course, even with it I got stuck 3 times launching my old sled on some of our river banks. Never get a river sled with a single axle trailer! Single tires and iffy river banks = stuck fast! Many times I'll drop the truck...
