Tomcat: Upgrade, downgrade or just different?

You can definitely sleep 3 kids in the berth. Also on the port side you can have an extra cushion made that sits on the foot rest and (if you wish) an extension platform that you can fab to fit across the entire aft end of the birth. That allows even tall people to sleep in the berth oriented...

    Canadian Border To Remain Closed

As a bit of a reality check - Trump didn't close down travel from China - he closed down travel to America of Chinese citizens. All of the infected (and uninfected) Americans were welcome to return with no restrictions and no quarantine. So not only was his travel ban ineffective from a public...

Poor planning on my 22’ cruiser

I'm not familiar with the SE sport 400 - other than to look at it online but I did put permatrims on my twin Honda 40's when I had a CD 22 and I have permatrims on my twin Honda 130's on my Tomcat. With the permatrims, there is a bit of added drag (after all, one is using the pressure of the...

2020 FRIDAY Harbor CBGT, move to Sept 2020

Out on the coast, clamming (when it's open) is crazy busy. Thousands drive out to Long Beach, Mocrocks etc when clamming is open there. So I understand why some clamming isn't open. Ditto for the very few halibut days we have each year. Thousands traveling to the coast, ramps and fish...

    Adding Tomcat Thru-Hull for Washdown

I have my through hull strainer on the port side sponson. My boat is about 200 miles away so no picture is possible for awhile. With the engines hanging off the bracket, the props are far enough away that the strainer has essentially zero impact on water flow at the prop.

    Zoom for technical issues

I'd be fine with Zoom for that purpose. I've also thought about hosting a virtual C-Brat get together for those who would like to participate. I've been doing Zoom happy hours with friends for weeks now and its been a nice way to maintain contact.

2020 FRIDAY Harbor CBGT, move to Sept 2020

I love the Friday Harbor gathering because: 1) I love FH 2) I love to catch spot prawns and 3) It's a time I can get to see many C-Brats w/o interrupting my salmon or tuna fishing. I'm all in support of moving it to Sept. but likely won't attend then as both criteria (2) and (3) are not met. I...

    Garage/Shop door height?

My Tomcat on the trailer sits a little higher than 25 on a trailer. With the radar, it's 12'3" to the top of the radar which is mounted on a stand. It would be taller if my radar was on top of a radar arch. If you do plan to put radar on the 25 (and I would recommend that if you plan to boat...

    Are you hunkering down?

Agreed. The governor specifically called out exercise and mental health as important to maintain. I haven't been boating but if my boat was in the water or if ramps were open, I'd go out without any guilt.

    Are you hunkering down?

I'm guessing about the same proportion as there is bias in people who need to drill holes in their boats. In either case, I'm still listening to an actual expert.

    Are you hunkering down?

Marty makes the very good point that the Chinese ultimately contained the virus through measures far more extreme than orders we are under. I find it very strange that some on this site will seek expert opinion for repairing a cored fiberglass but are their own Google experts when it comes to...

    Are you hunkering down?

The primary "rule" here (where there are no rules) is Just Be Nice. Please consider that in the future.

    Are you hunkering down?

Well - we're up to 110 deaths as of today in WA state and 2221 confirmed cases. The growth rate of cases in King county is faster that what was observed in Italy and we can expect the number of cases to continue to rise exponentially for at least the next several weeks. So this is NOT just a...

    Problem of the day

If you need something else - try high temp Loctite RTV 5920 High-Performance Silicone Gasket Maker. It's good to 600F.

'03 22 Cruiser Work in Progress

Since the balsa is end grain, often the water doesn't make it very far into it. I'd recommend using a smallish drill bit (with tape on it to gauge depth) and drilling a few holes through the topside fiberglass and into the core in the area around the moisture. Start out an inch or so away and...

    Postponed - 05/14 - 05/17 - 2020 Friday Harbor CBGT

Harvey - I don't yet see a sign up for this gathering - perhaps Tyboo or Will can get that set up. I'll be there but will have my boat at FH for a week prior and a week after. Many spot prawns must die. :D

Do you strap your boat down when trailering?

A power boat that isn't strapped down is being towed by either an idiot or a person who is ignorant of the dangers.
