    Transom Drain Plug Safety

Hi all, I've grown up around boats and have been a boat owner for 12 years now. All of the boats I've ever had were equipped with the rubber expanding transom drain plug. I've never really thought twice about them until my recent trip to Tahoe. Upon installing the plug, maybe I overtightened...

    Sufficiency/efficiency of twin 40s on 22'

I run a heavily loaded 22 and have carbed twin 40 yamahas. I would say the power is the least amount I'd like to have but gets the job done. 18 to 20 knots on flat seas should be easy if that's your concern. I have recently repropped from 13" to 11" and it has made a huge difference so be...

    Saturn V.S Baltik

The 12ft Kaboat looks good in your pic. Unfortunately my Radar Dome sets forward on the roof with rocket launchers on the rear. A kaboat could still work if I flipped it upside down and have the radar fit it between the tubes if there is enough clearance.

    Saturn V.S Baltik

Thanks for the Reply, Yes, I have seen those Bris kayak boats. They are the same thing as the Saturn Kaboats. I really like them, but for my needs a standard dinghy either in the 7'6 or 8'6 size will be best mostly because of my radar arch and rocket launchers on the roof. I will be able to...

    Saturn V.S Baltik

Hi all, I've read a few places including on this site in some outdated threads that Saturn and Baltik inflatables are the same with different brands stamped on them. I'm seriously considering buying one of the 8'6" models. For the most part the specs on these seem to be the same. Differences...

    Trolling with twins

I have twin yamaha 40's on my 22 and I do a lot of trolling usually between 1.6mph-3mph depending on what I"m fishing for. My general technique is to shut one engine down at a time and rotate them to keep the hours and wear/tear the same. I get annoyed by constantly having to spend time...

Cost to repower a 22 Cruiser in 2017

I have recently pondered re powering. I won't comment on the twins or Single + kicker Situation, but I looked at both options. A Yami 115xb I was quoted 9,100 and a t9.9 high thrust 2,790. Yamaha 60hp twins come in at 6,840 each. My current setup is twin 40s, so the twin 60's would be an...

    Lower Carrier Bearing Housing

I ended up having to take the Lower unit to a mechanic. The tool I referenced earlier (Marine Tech) was too large my F40. The Mechanic was able to remove it but broke both bolt flanges in the process. Every other Mechanic I talked to over the phone said there is no guaruntee it won't break...

    Installing Solas Props

All of the spacing/clearances seems to work, I'm thinking the old materials are fine to reuse with new props.

    Installing Solas Props

Hi, I recently posted a thread on props for a 22 with twin Yami 40's. I ended up purchasing 2 new Saturn SS Solas Props. #3331-116-11. The same ones as "Hardee" since he runs at a similar weight and altitude and is happy with there performance. I assumed new thrust washers and spacers would...

    Lower Carrier Bearing Housing

Thanks for all of the replies. Unfortunately I have hit the end of the modified puller with a hammer while trying to remove. I won't do this anymore but yes will give light taps to the sides of where the housing is stuck. I will make sure to inspect everything carefully before re installation...

    Lower Carrier Bearing Housing

I've been using Aerokroil. I have not tried the "freeze off" method so will try that. I agree a tool could be modified farily easily, but I don't have time to do it before a Lake Shasta trip I have planned with being away all next week for work. At this point I've ordered the overpriced tool...

    Lower Carrier Bearing Housing

Well this Lower Bearing Carrier is very tough to get out! I've heated with propane torches, sprayed lubricant as well as possible and tried several ways to pull out. the most succesful being this modification on a regular puller. I may have moved it 1/64"...

    Lower Carrier Bearing Housing

Thanks again for all the replies. I want to get the job done right so I"im gonna hold off on the next trip. I will have all the proper tools/gaskets soon and will be replacing all oil seals/o rings associated with the lower unit when they arrive. I will then pressure test it per the yamaha...

    Lower Carrier Bearing Housing

Thanks for the reply, I would have used as is since it wasn't a large leak to begin with but unfortunately I have already damaged the outer seal trying to remove it without the removing the actual assembly... Maybe I could still try to just remove and replace the outer seal while leaving the...

    Lower Carrier Bearing Housing

I need to replace the oil seals on my 2003 Yamaha F40 Lower carrier bearing housing. I bought the puller to remove it easily since it seems these can be a paint to remove and light prying did not budge it. I have the bearing oil seals but unfortunately there is also an O ring I didn't know...

22 Cruiser twin Yami 40's props

I only mentioned the performance differences in SS. They also are tougher and virtually can last forever. I like the look too. The 4 different types I was mentioning is really just two depending on metal type. SS Options: Saturn and New Saturn. I don't really see a noticeable difference...

22 Cruiser twin Yami 40's props

Thanks for the responses. I'm going to get a new set of props with an 11" pitch. If I like them I will keep them as my everyday prop and keep the old ones for spares. My current pitch being 13 usually only gets me on average a little over 5000 rpm depending on ocean conditions. Hopefully I'll...

22 Cruiser twin Yami 40's props

Hi all, I know a few people have the same twin yamaha 40's on there 22 as I do. I currently don't have a spare prop and was thinking about buying 1, when I thought maybe I should try a different size/pitch and get 2. Most of my boating is on the Salt, but the motors do bog down quit a bit...
