    Hydraulic Steering with Twin Hondas

I have used the Baystar system for years on my twin Hondas with never a problem. I remember having to temporarily lift the starboard motor to make the connection. Other than that, pretty straight forward.

    Lake Superior Bayfield area

Bob--there's still over 2 feet of ice on Chequamegon Bay right now and there could realistically be some floating around in early June this year. July and August is our most settled weather. There's good fishing for Lake Trout, walleye, and smallmouth bass in and around the Bay. The Kakogon...

S1000 Autopilot questions - can any S1000 owners confirm?

I have my controller mounted behind the helm in the v-berth and there is no place on the boat that the remote will not work. I frequently steer with the remote from the stern while trolling. I imagine you checked the batteries in the remote.

    Four downriggers on a 22' ?

Hi Chris, Sorry I missed your post a couple of days ago---just got back from Isle Royale. I have four downriggers on Winyah and would definitely do it again. Have two back by the fuel fillers and two just behind cabin bulkhead. All are on swivel bases. You must place them so you can swivel...

    Raymarine S1000 autopilot

I've used the S1000 for trolling for a couple of months now and really like it. The standard settings from the initial setup did not work well at trolling speeds on Lake Superior (2 mph). I had to manually mess with the settings so it did not overwork at slow speeds. If I want to use it at...

Baystar installation issues with twin Hondas - need help

Nainu, I just installed the Baystar with the new cylinder on twin 40's. Had the same problem as you. Solved it by hooking up the tie bar on the top of the starboard bracket and the bottom of the port bracket. Works great. Another solution would be to fabricate new brackets that extend out...

    Hydraulic Steering Maintenance

Richard-- The plastic caps will come off if you just twist and pull. They are not threaded. May need a pliers, but put a rag around them just to protect them a little. Hope things have gone well for you since our cruise of the Apostles. Gary on "Winyah"

    Raymarine S1000 autopilot

Hunkydory Never mind---I know what you mean by one motor. Getting old and not thinking too fast. Thanks a lot for your help.

    Raymarine S1000 autopilot

Hunkydory Our dealer told us the same thing about the 2 1/2 mph limit but says that the "newer" models are effective down to 1 1/2. Maybe....... What did you mean when you said--"smoothly steer the boat using only one motor." Did you disconnect the rod between the two motors or did you mean...

    Raymarine S1000 autopilot

Thanks for the info Starcrafttom and Byrdman. I sure like the idea of speed control on the remote, but I have two Honda 40's and no kicker. I think I'll have to try the S1000 unless someone out there has a better way to go. As I'm writing this, the better and better that speed control while...

    Raymarine S1000 autopilot

I want to install an autopilot with wireless remote control to be used primarily for trolling on Lake Superior. I was planning on going with the Raymarine ST 6001 and adding the remote. A marine electronics dealer in Duluth is recommending the Raymarine S1000, particularly if I want to use it...

    Planer Boards

David--Have Big Jon manual reels clamped to furthest aft portion of top rail. Florescent nylon line - not sure of brand. Not sure of what you mean--"position of line to board". Have both plastic and wood double planer boards, both with about 8 oz. of lead added to keep them from bouncing...

    Planer Boards

David--I've run big boards directly off the top rails for several years. I run them out to a max. of 150 ft. It works ok but another foot higher would be nice. I don't use any kind of pulley off the top rails, but you may have to if you go higher. Gary -"Winyah"

    Lenco Trim Tabs

CAVU I have my Lowrance skimmer mounted on a Cabela's starboard mounting board between the two Honda 40's. Drilled a hole in the mounting board for the plug hole. Works great and no holes in transom below the waterline. Transducer works well between motors at any speed. I have the Lenco...

    Lenco Trim Tabs

Alma's Only Thanks for the reply. I misspoke when I said 3/4 inch. They are 3/8 inch up from the bottom of the transom and 3/4 inch up at the planing edge when fully retracted. They work absolutely great other than the water they kick up around the motor when fully deployed. It doesn't...
