ANL Fuses: Blue Seas $20 ea vs. Amazon Stereo $4?

Hello Jason, Take a look at here for a good tutorial on fusing in general. The fifth box down talks specifically about 'cheap' ANL fuses and how their failure mode/s can be unsafe on a boat where flammable fumes might be present. dave

    Help installing mini acr

Hello Kush, The "starter isolation" wire doesn't exist until you make and install it. From Blue Sea: It's and OPTIONAL feature of your ACR; use it if you like. I've never needed it. The instructions with your ACR kit show how to run the wire. /dave

    Help installing mini acr

What Bob says bears repeating. Ensure the washers, if used, are under the nut (ONLY). The lugs should be in direct contact with the battery terminal, buss bar, etc. Where you have two lugs on the same stud, ensure there is NO WASHER between the lugs - again, the washers (flat and/or locking)...

    Angola canvas (22/19 mooring cover)

Hello Bob, For a stud mounted to a fiberglass boat surface, I use the machine screw with nut or standard screw as you mention above...then use the SnapRite system to get the other half of the snap in the canvas part positioned exactly right the first time. Very slick! I think in Sailrite's...

    Angola canvas (22/19 mooring cover)

Hello Jason, IF you have to do the "fitting," then check out the tool Sailrite.com sells for snap placement...they call it the Snaprite system shown here I won't try to describe HOW it works (other than to say it is GREAT for positioning snaps so the canvas fit is nice and snug/tight). They...

    Adhesive advice for Solar panels

The Blue Sea Side entry cable clam works well for this type of application - if entry is through a vertical or nearly so surface. I've used a 'hot' piece of metal to form a second groove to allow TWO cables to pass through one clam. /dave

    Windlass/Rode splice problem

Hello Harvey, I recently purchased a "Defender" branded 1/2" 8-plait rode prespliced (by Defender) to 1/4" chain for use in a Lewmar 700 Profish Horizontal windlass. I don't have any pics of the actual splice at the moment, but I can tell you it has fed through the gypsy without problem the...

    CD 25 Generator Box

Hello Bob and Bob, You are correct that a standard clamp on meter will not adequately measure "start-up" current. There ARE clamp on meters that WILL measure "start up" (or inrush) current. The FLUKE 375 is an example of such a meter. These meters are designed to give readings that reflect...

Thoughts on RAM 1500 Eco Diesel

Is it possible to calculate the ACTUAL (i.e., out the door cost) cost of the V6 Diesel option in the 1/2 ton pickup? Last year I went online and tried using their "build it" system to spec out one of these Ram 1/2 Ton diesel pickups. My impression at the time was that with the diesel engine...
