Hey Joel - any chance you're associated with the NorCal BMW group? A good buddy of mine used to maintain their web site, and has been pretty active in the group. He's also got an R bike, but it's a 1200GS...he's tricked it out quite a bit - here's a pic.

He's also done a pretty cool restoration...a Norton 1971 Production Road Racer. I'm not that familiar with the bike, but I guess it's pretty rare. After he restored it, he parked it in his living room - it sits in a wood framed box filled with black gravel. Quite the show piece...here's a pic of it outisde, last Norton pictured on the page.

Yeah...he's single. Lucky would be the man, whose wife allowed a motorcylce in the living room... :lol:
 
Holy crap, Batman! Another common trait of C-Brats?? How is this possible??

First bike was a 1973 Honda 500 cc four cylinder job, I have forgotten the model name, that a client gave me. [on edit: it came to me, it was a CB500] Patty hated it from the start, but Lydia and I loved riding on that one! I am really sorry I sold it! Joined the Honda Sport Touring Club, lots of great rides with them but I was always about 10 miles behind after traveling any roads with curves.

Just got done selling a 250 Honda Rebel and a 250 Yamaha. Down to my current 1982 Honda Silverwing 500, which is on the block. No time for riding, and Patty still hates it anyway.

That leaves a 1978 Honda Hobbit moped and a 1985 Honda Spree motorscooter, both 50 cc jobbies, neither of which have run for YEARS. B~C - lets talk about getting these guys going again!
 
Yes Bill...I do belong to the NorCal group.... they put on a great rally....the weekend after our Delta event.... called the 49er..Rally.... one time Sue and I were coming home from the San Juans with the boat and attended one of their weekend campouts in our boat.... only C-Dory in da group...actually they had a good time ribbing us about attending a motorcycle event in a boat... I think it was in Fall River Mills... it was fun...but no water.. who cares..I enjoy the boat almost as well when I am in a Wallmart parking lot...

Steve... Jeep...yep I got one of those too... I built it up from a trashed CJ-5 and now it looks super, runs super and is perfect for the mountains...where we keep it... lots of toys up there...never to old for toys..

What a small world, Joel...

Scot and I met several years back, when he was still doing gunsmithing. We used to hit the Shot Show every year...he's since given it up, as you may know. Too many hurdles in CA.

You've seen his previous bikes then as well, I'm guessing...he's definitely into the zebra stripes, although I dig the white paint job with delicate purple fade he did on his K bike. He's pretty dang talented...

I'm guessing you know his buddy Gene as well? I've always been envious when he's told me of the rides and gatherings you guys have - sounds like a blast.
 
My son is a gunsmith.....went to Lassen College to learn his skills...but it's really hard to find employment in that industry.....currently he is working at Sportsmans Warehouse in Reno... sells guns, but only retail sales...no repairs. I would like him to find a new job... maybe Reno needs a C-Dory dealership...

Yes it is....It killed me when he quit West Marine..... my super discount went away...

Yea Joel, I'd say we BOTH miss him. That discount xmas present from him Dec'02 was perfect timing, just got my new boat home days before, really helped with the budget. Great guy, not to worry, he'll do well, just finding his niche...

Anyone ever ride a Yamaha TW200?

Looks like it might be a fun bike for local trails and downtown trips. Nuttin' I'd want to ride where there's much traffic, but folks who have 'em seem to love 'em - cheap, great gas mileage, simple and reliable, easy to ride...
 
that looks like just the ticket. Strap a banjo on your back and explore the mountains around P.A.....I was studying up on those buggers just the other day. I was thinking of getting one to run around on and then trying to get the spousal unit interested in it. Once she was hooked I'd add a Suzuki DR650 to the fleet. I realized that plan wouldn't work for a variety of reasons but from what I found, the people that have them, love them. One guy was running his down the freewway at 65mph but didn't recomend doing it much.
 
Yeah, the top end speed is the most frequent complaint. In stock form, 50-55 seems to be as fast as most folks think is comfortable, although they'll top out around 70. Main reason being, the things haven't changed much since they were introduced - back in the 80's, I think. They've still got 5-speed gearboxes, and the thing really winds out at freeway speeds.

Not a big deal for me...out on the Oly Pen, few folks go faster than 55 anyway, as the cops are thick and unforgiving.

Several owners have swapped out the front sprocket from a 14 to 15 tooth, and consider it a worthy upgrade. They say it allows a comfortable cruise at 60+, without sacrificing bottom end significantly.

You think the CHiPs are bad down here--- up in WA they have the WaSPs. And they do sting.

Yup...that's what I was referring to, hence the "Oly Pen" reference... :lol:

I've found CHP's to be forgiving, depending on the circumstance - I've been let off a couple times for minor issues. Treat 'em nice, apologize and admit you were wrong (if you were), and if the guy is having a good day you just might get off with a warning.

I was also surprised to run into a very cool OR State Trooper - I was towing Da Nag 22 with my jacked up hippy van. I was cutting over to 97 from I5, going 55 along the Willamette Hwy. Trouble is, there are a number of towns where the speed limit drops, and I missed a sign...trooper coming right at me nailed me on RADAR, flipped around and pulled me over.

I thought for certain I was hosed...CA plates, CA boat registration, Central OR - I thought everyone hated us there. Trooper asked if I knew the speed limit - I told the guy I had the cruise on 55 to ensure I wasn't speeding, but must have missed a sign if he was pulling me over.

He ran my plates, came back to the window, and handed me my license/registration. "Nice boat", he says. "Keep an eye on things down the road, the speed limit changes frequently. Have a nice day." Blew me away...

I've not been pulled over by WA State Troopers, or any of the County/City cops out in Port Angeles - but I've been warned. Evidently, they are some of the toughest out there...I just set the cruise and relax.
 
For the 10 years I lived in seatlle I had a terrific run of luck. I was stopped once near Gig Harbor, once north of Olympia, and once north of Seattle. All for speeding. Never got ticketed once. Just admitted to not paying close enough attention and they let me go. I have had just about as good luck in Oregon but once got a stupid ticket in California for something they call "speed towing". I was pulled over while I was being passed by a semi. That one really ticked me off.
 
Some of my friends several years back said that they wanted to prop a photo of me on their dash, because I always manage to get off with a verbal warning when pulled over by the kind officers. (Often times the conversation from the officer begins with....."Oh, it's you Dave, how ya doin' ". (Guess I've worked with a lot of them in the county over the years).
