I found this site the other day while perusing the buttmall looking for instructions on tieing some of the decorative knots.(bell ropes , monkey fist, turks head etc) Lots of info if you are interested or in need of this type of thing. www.knotical-arts.com Mike on Huda Thunkit

Thank you for posting the site.

You cannot beat ASHLEYS BOOK OF KNOTS and Harvey Garrett Smith's ARTS OF A SAILOR for knot tying.

ARTS OF THE SAILOR has useful projects using knot tying. ASHLEY'S has it all.

Thank you,

Fred Heap

Thanks for the link. You have awakened an old desire of mine to try and make Old style braided fenders for Minnie. I think they would look especially appropriate on a C-Dory. I heard the old river guys called them "Possums''. There is a looong winter ahead to accomplish such a task. Do you know of any patterns for making them?

great idea knot tying is a forgotten past. By the way nice pictures it is just me and my daughter and I look forward to boating next year for the first time the idea of letting her pilot us out of the first anchorage is way cool as you did with your granddaughter. i'm new to all this stuff but look forward to making new friends here as this seems to be a great spot to do so I hope to see you all out next summer in the pws:]

OK, for Xmas, I put the bite on my son for "The Ashley Book of Knots". Through Amazon. and it finally arrived.

I have several knot books, all of which fall short. Ashley has it all. A great book. And it only cost me $269, 288 to bring him up, proving nothing's free. Anyway it's a great book. thanks for bringing it to my attention.
