What I'm looking for currently however is Vancouver Island owners. Would love to pay for a ride along. I'm in Port Alberni, not into ass or grass but have cash if somebody needs a fishing buddy for a day.

Would REALLY appreciate experienced feedback in cdory usage in the Port Alberni inlet, barclay sound and outside waters of Ukee and Bamfield. Anyone local knows how bad the inlet can blow up (i have a couple horror stories getting caught in Nahmint of my own)

Not into going fast like the salmon herd during the summer. I either leave PA early to get ahead of them or later if spending a few nights. If my wife can crochet beside me and be warm, I'll get to the fish eventually and be happier for it.
 
All fjords have the propensity to blow up during certain weather conditions. It doesn't really matter where....BC, AK, Norway, or Chili. The results are generally the same: steep tightly spaced chop accentuated by strong winds and tidal currents, general nastiness around points and capes, and all that gets worse with an irregular or shallow bottom. In your location there might even be some ground swell thrown into the mix just to give it more spice!

The C-Dory line does well in these conditions when operated by a patient and knowledgeable skipper. You are not going to break any speed records, but you illustrated that is not that important to you. But know this, when it is truly miserable out, my CD 22 actually is able to travel marginally faster than many larger deep v boats due to the sharp entry point of the bow and the relatively flat bottom allowing it to plane at slow speeds and not wallow around in the waves. I find it predictable to control and very nimble in comparison to other boats I've piloted. I also find it a remarkably dry boat, which is nice!

But while c-dory makes a capable craft, the most important thing you can do is watch the weather to avoid those conditions. I know sometimes that just doesn't work out even if you are on it. Do be assured your c-dory is just as capable, or more capable, than most of the boats showing up on a trailer of similar size that go out. I hope you get your ride and some local knowledge on your area.
 
Thanks Bauer. Its good reading experienced accounts of what these boats can handle with the right knowledge at the helm. Everyone makes videos of cdory’s in calm or light chop and I get a lot of nay-sayers trying to talk me out of owning one. Especially salespeople lol

And of course, avoidance is the best course of action but my experience shows getting caught happens and I’d rather be prepared. That and convincing the mrs. that she’ll be comfortable doing what we want to do.
 
There is a really good video of the Factory Guys out on the Columbia River bar looks like out of Ilwaco.

They show big waves motoring in a 22’ Cruiser. If you have not been across the bar you will appreciate how quick things go to heck in a handbag and how the C-Dory design will get you thru the unpredictable weather.

Hopefully someone can share the link. I found one video on you tube and could no t get it to play.

I remember a heck of string going back and forth about if that was the right way to show how tough these boats are. I also remember the some words like crazy, nuts, and many compliments.

I’d seen a couple of those photos on other websites. Managed to find the original post from 2015 and see the rest. Unfortunately the video is blocked in Canada for some reason. Anyone have the video hosted elsewhere other than youtube?

Thanks for bringing it up as thats exactly the type of situation I’ve been wondering about, that and wind driven confused seas.
