Wiper Motor Wiring

AFi STD Wiper Kit Windshield Frame Mount ..Product # 32000 , 12 Volt Standard Motor,80 Degree Sweep, 11 inch Blade, 6-3/4 to 10 1/2 Adjustable Arm..........I installed the StarBoard Electrical Wiper today.It went together easily except that it doesn't work.hmmm! I wired it for regular operation verses self-park operation. Wire from the negative wiper motor connection to the negative bus connection..Red wire from the switch connection on the wiper motor to the # 1 toggle switch connection----red wire from # 2 toggle switch connection to the fuse and to the positive bus connection. The electric motor also has a positive connector but it saws that it is not used when wired for regular operation.I seem to have wired it correctly but it is dead, i tried another toggle switch but still no go.Note..with a tester there is power to the positive wire side of the toggle switch as should be----when i turn the toggle switch on there is no power from the toggle switch to the wiper motor switch connector when i touch it with the electrical tester....With the toggle switch open there should be power running from the positive wire thru the toggle switch up to the wiper motor..any what do i do next ideas..Thanks Tug

Something doesn't make sense here. If I understand you, you have +12V (probably a bit more) measured at one side of the switch, when the switch is off. I also understand that the other side of the switch is connected to the motor positive lead and that the motor negative lead is connected to the bus ground. Then when you turn the switch to the "on" position, you get no activity at the motor and the voltage measured at the switch is 0. Is this correct? If so (and if you're not blowing a fuse, it sounds as if there is significant resistance between the switch and the positive side of the bus (such that the 12V is dropped across that resistance when current flows through it). Do you have a voltmeter or just a tester? Also, if you disconnect the motor, do you get positive voltage at the other side of the switch when it's on?
 
Roger that is correct, and the fuse is good,the positive wire is connected to the switch connection on the wiper motor not the positive connection , says positive connection not used in standard wiring connection, i will disconnect the switch wire from the wiper motor from the toggle switch and see if i have power running through the toggle switch in that wire.I will try to post a diagram of the wiring instructions. Sounds like no ground!
 
I am going out to trouble shoot ( or maybe shoot the wiper motor ) and i will check all connections with a meter.It's probably something simple, that is usually the case.Tug
 
For my clarification-

You have 12V at the lead to the switch. Turning the switch on, you don't have 12V at the output side of the switch?

Are there more than two lugs on the switch? Do you have 12V at one of the other lugs when the switch is on?

To test the wiper motor, you could bypass the switch and run 12V directly to the motor. That would verify it's operation. If it works, probalm is in switch. If it doesn't work, and you hae 12V at wiper motor with switch on, probalm is in wiper.

Though this diagram is from my CD25, the basic wiring diagram should work the same.

There is a switch inside the motor assy. that allows the motor to continue to run after the wiper 'control' toggle switch is turned 'off' (opened). This function usually will draw power from the +12VDC buss in front of the 'control' switch, but after the fuse.

?? Have you tried to move the red wire to the other terminal on the motor, leaving the black(negative) in place?

All this assumes that the motor is a single directional rotation unit and the company is not doing a reversal of the polarity inside the frame to cause the motor to do the change of direction.

Finally discovered what the trouble was....there was a bad connection where the switch (positive) wire connects to the wiper motor switch .I had used a clear heat shrink ring connector but had forgot to crimp it , when i looked at the ring connector i could see the wire was pushed up in the correct position so i didn't think this was the problem but as soon as i crimped it everything worked great. It always is the little things that cause all the trouble. Thanks a million for all the suggestions, which led me to solving the problem.I will post pictures . Tug
