Leave it to an educated, experienced, and overpaid senior mechanical engineer to find a way to make it more complicated than it has to be and build in a safety factor of 16x!

Probably has a ratcheting safety belt on the Porta-Potti in his C-Dory.

NASA would be proud!

Just joking around with you, as usual.....!

I have a 25' x 40' RV barn for the boats, but want the boat in the water during he winter when we get some of our best trout fishing.

Just can't stand the green algae all over the lower unit when left in the water to avoid freezing.

You're right, the winterizing does take on a lot of complications, especially in boats with more complex plumbing, etc.

Fortunately, we're able to leave our motor home out and unprotected here in Redding, as the freezing temperatures don't last long enough to freeze the tanks, etc.

Are you and Paige thinking of coming to the bash in Seattle?

Now it's Halloween, 2008, and here comes winter again...

LAZY is my fall... I have the bypass kit for the hot water heater and the
syphon kit for the antifreeze jug-STILL in the bag from when I purchased
them.

SO, this Friday I dumped all the cold fresh water via the sink till the pump
stalled. I left water in the heater tank.
RESULTS:
Add - 5gals antifreeze AND 5gals of fresh water to tank before pump
would stop running with fausets closed.
Add - 2gals antifreeze and 2gals of fresh water to flush shower and sink
hot and cold lines till each water line is nice and pink. Time spent: 1.5hrs
from starting with a full water tank to finished.

This is an expensive way to winterize the water system and I still have to
pumpout the holding tank and add 1gal antifreeze there.

Now if I can only get that hard sealent off all the water lines and fittings
the factory installed without major surgery.

Now I will watch the antifreeze sales and get 8gals for next year in
anticipation of a repeat exercise.

Is there a lesson in all this? Pay for more antifreeze than is necessary
when you can do the job better with the right tools.

Now if I could only figure out how much water is in that water tank at any
given time, again without major surgery.

JT- come spring...
In the past I would flush it out with the pump till it lost its syphon, then
add fresh water with the pump off till the overflow gave up its water, turn
on the pump and repeat the process till the water was clear. I usually do
it 4 times and then add my other stuff to the mix to prevent mold,
etc., for the final fill.

The antifreeze is the Marine/RV -50F type [the pink stuff] and is safe to
use in the water systems.
