Window track drain guard's

I am gaining, LOL I got two more pictures of the guards in my album.

One is the best one so it doesn't look so angry. :mrgreen:

Very funny!!

Does anyone know if these smiling little fellows that cover the drain holes actually perform a useful function? (I speculated on the insect barrier theory earlier).

Are they mostly cosmetic?

What are the risks if yours are missing, in poor repair, or need a facelift?

What is their average life expectancy?

How come we've never (to my knowledge) discussed them before in the 15 years I've been a member of the various C-Dory clans?

Is it better to have singles or twins?

Etc., etc.

Those appear to be simple pop rivets, aluminum in all likelihood. You can buy sheet aluminum at most hardware stores, in various thicknesses and aluminum rivets too! Why not make your own?

Because I could not make the offset bends to make the overhang.

You know, if they're not necessary, the boat might look better without them (?)

Of course, you do have two holes that would still have to be filled in with pop rivets or some other filler.

Will be interesting to hear what Diamond Sea Glaze has to say. However, if it's been too many years, the original thinking may be unclear in the memories of employees that didn't work back in that era.(!)

An update on my email to Diamond sea glaze.

It has been 2 weeks and NO response. :(

I sent my email before Chris provided the link, that web page BTW says to contact them to make sure you are getting the correct size.

When I first got my boat I sent them a request about an opening front window and got an answer within 2 days. ( the amount of money makes a difference's )

Have you tried calling them? A few years ago when I needed a simply piece they were quite responsive on the phone - try - 800-770-0455 and
ask for Kim Parley (hopefully he's still there).
 
Roger, I don't call because then I have to remember what was said.
When it is in email I can go back and read it later in black and white.
