windlass on a 16 angler c-dory

Anyone see a good setup of a windlass on a 16 c-dory?

Anyone try a powerwinch in the ocean? I was wondering if the salt water would be too harsh on the winch.

I searched the c-brat site, found some good ideas, I was just wondering if anymore windlasses have been installed between now and the latest post. I was thinking of the lewmar profish but thought that may be a little overkill.

Are yuou planning on anchoring over night, or just while fishing? For day anchoring, you might consider the following:

Powerwinch makes electric anchor winches for pontoon boats that can actually hold a CD-22 down with an 18 pound plastic coated mushroom anchor in 25 knots of wind (I know, I tried one out in the California Delta).

They're limited to about 100 feet of line because of the spool diameter, but change the existing supplied 3/16" line out with Dynema or Spectra line, and you've got several thousand pounds of holding power, plus some elasticity, due to the braid structure and length. Also, the electrical demands are more suitable to a CD-16, than you would have with a bigger windlass.

Then too, the cost of one of these is about 1/2 of a real windlass. I wouldn't routinely immerse it in salt water, however!

I wont be overnighting, just anchoring at fishing spots. I only use the boat in salt water, and its quite often that the front of the boat gets soaked from waves. Which spectra would you recommend? also I thought spectra had no elasticity?

Powerwinch has made boat windlasses for some time (over 30 years)--generally both those with spools and capstan drums (the chain wheels are newer in design)--have not been real satisfactory in salt water. I have seen 35 foot boats with Power Winch windlasses--I would not put one on my boat. I feel it is false "economy"--You want something which is reliable and will hold up to the use you give it.
