where to buy chain and rode

Well I need new chain and rode for the 27. the windlass that I picked up last week and will install this week is a lewmar-Simpson sprint 1000. No longer being made. was replaced with the v series. It calls for 5/16 chain and 9/16 rode. I would like to buy 100' of chain and 300 or more of rode. I have gone on line and most of it is way to much. anyone have a good discount site or a local recommendation?? need by end of week.
 
C'mon Tom, anyone that owns two (count 'em) two C-Dory's including a 27 can afford a line and a chain. Spring for a good one! :lol: :lol:

Thanks Harvey for letting me join you on the water. It was great seeing everybody and spending some time, albeit far too short, on the docks at Hudson Marina w/ those that attended.

Even Tanya whom I had to cajole into joining us on Sunday (she wanted to see everybody but after the rough return from Langley - did not want to get on a boat again so soon) really enjoyed watching things from the shore. She drove back and forth between the area where the race started out over to Fort Warden State Park and Point Wilson to observe the C-Dory's in action.

It sure is impressive seeing up close how professional all of the C-Brats helping out in the event were. Often, seemingly much more so then the police/sheriff boats involved - at least as gauged by their respective communications.

I greatly enjoyed being on the water w/ Harvey and had my eyes opened seeing and listening to the C-Dory's in action. I have so much to learn and appreciate the patience of all of you in answering my frequent questions and tolerating my many shortcomings. Glad I crewed instead of participated due to my lack of the skills exhibited by all of you.

Damn I am glad to have acquired a C-Dory and have met so many great people (Ranger folks too Joe & Ruth)!

Hope to see most of you in Bellingham next month.

Tom, my "fleet" is down to two boats, the TC255 and Sally's Bobcat. The other two have been sold. Hope you divest yourself with the 22 soon, it's a great buy on a great boat and I'm sure it will sell quickly!

Tom, I've always bought my chain & rope from Defender. Good stuff, reasonable priced. American made. ACCO is American made, well galvanized and strong.

Remember, that anchor rode is there to protect your boat, not just for a lunch hook. So buy something reasonable. You can call them, I've used their special orders to good result.

If you can get a god deal on ACCO chain anywhere else, go there. Shipping chain isn't cheap. There is a rigging place in Wilmington, Ca that will be cheaper for ACCO, but they're in Wilmington.

I looked up defender and I looked up what chain will fit my windlass. It can use 1/4 coil proof or 5/16 bbb or hi test. well proof coil is a lot cheaper but I dont know why I can use a different size?? and is it any good? please advice me.
 
BBB chain has shorter links than proof coil chain of the same size. I think high test chain has long links too. 1/4" proof coil ought to be strong enough for a 27 foot boat.
Before purcha$ing 100' of chain buy, borrow or steal a short piece of the intended size to make sure it really fits the gypsy.

Have you tried Harbor Marine in Everett? Located a couple blocks south of Tenth Street off Marine View Drive. They can cut you a piece to try or you can bring the windlass to the store. If you join their Captains Club for $10.00 it will save you about 10% on most purchases.

Another place to try would be Fisheries Supply in Seattle.
 
I got my 1/4 galvanized bbb from good old ACE hardware here in beaverton. If I remember correctly the price was much better than I could find at "marine" stores in this area.

No idea whether these guys might be cheaper or not, but Englund Marine here in town deals a lot of cordage, some of on the international market. 503-325-4341. Probably Sheila or Ron or Dave Green would be the ones who are more knowledgeable. Could be an easy way to get a gut check on other prices.

Disclaimer: my fiance' works there, so I guess I could be regarded as biased. I don't get any money out of the place, but she does (not enough!).
