A friend and I are trailering my C-Dory up to Washington so that we can explore your lovely waters (San Juans/Gulf Islands... maybe further north?). We're looking a place to put ourselves while we spend a week getting ourselves and the boat ready, and we're finding it a bit of a challenge without local knowledge.
We're towing with a camper van, so we're relatively self-contained. What we'd like to find is a place where we can buff/wash/wax the boat, in addition to doing some other odds and ends (basically quiet/inside the boat type stuff which we could actually do in a campground). Although we don't have to camp in the same place as the boat, we'd like to.
In my checking around so far I've found that we kind of fall between the cracks. On the RV side, although our "inside" projects are no problem, we can't (or wouldn't want to) buff/wax in a campground (the buffer is electric and makes some noise); and when we've checked into getting a spot in an actual boat yard, it's overkill. By that I mean that they're set up for large boats on stands doing toxic projects such as bottom painting; moving boats around with a lift; and that sort of thing (all of which we no longer have to do now that we are trailerable!). Not only is it expensive, but then we could easily end up with "stuff" from other boats landing on our nice, clean C-Dory (I know how it goes in boat yards -- just part of the overall experience). Also, it seems like then we'd have to find a separate place to park the van/camp, which doesn't seem to be too easy anywhere near the water during your glorious summer (which apparently starts this weekend).
Basically, we just want to do the sort of thing you'd do in your own driveway of a weekend, but we neglected to bring our own driveway with us (oops!)
When we launch, we'll need to find someplace to store the van/trailer, but that should be much easier. We're open to various locales, anywhere from Bellingham around through Anacortes, Port Townsend, Port Angeles (or... other points we don't know about).
Any suggestions would be welcomed (or if you would like to PM, I'll keep an eye on those too).
Thanks,
Sunbeam
PS: If any local (to where we launch from) Brats would like to buff your C-Dory, we'd be happy to leave the buffer with you while we're on the water and just pick it up when we become land-borne again.
