Where to base while prepping for San Juans/Gulf Islands-PNW

A friend and I are trailering my C-Dory up to Washington so that we can explore your lovely waters (San Juans/Gulf Islands... maybe further north?). We're looking a place to put ourselves while we spend a week getting ourselves and the boat ready, and we're finding it a bit of a challenge without local knowledge.

We're towing with a camper van, so we're relatively self-contained. What we'd like to find is a place where we can buff/wash/wax the boat, in addition to doing some other odds and ends (basically quiet/inside the boat type stuff which we could actually do in a campground). Although we don't have to camp in the same place as the boat, we'd like to.

In my checking around so far I've found that we kind of fall between the cracks. On the RV side, although our "inside" projects are no problem, we can't (or wouldn't want to) buff/wax in a campground (the buffer is electric and makes some noise); and when we've checked into getting a spot in an actual boat yard, it's overkill. By that I mean that they're set up for large boats on stands doing toxic projects such as bottom painting; moving boats around with a lift; and that sort of thing (all of which we no longer have to do now that we are trailerable!). Not only is it expensive, but then we could easily end up with "stuff" from other boats landing on our nice, clean C-Dory (I know how it goes in boat yards -- just part of the overall experience). Also, it seems like then we'd have to find a separate place to park the van/camp, which doesn't seem to be too easy anywhere near the water during your glorious summer (which apparently starts this weekend).

Basically, we just want to do the sort of thing you'd do in your own driveway of a weekend, but we neglected to bring our own driveway with us (oops!)

When we launch, we'll need to find someplace to store the van/trailer, but that should be much easier. We're open to various locales, anywhere from Bellingham around through Anacortes, Port Townsend, Port Angeles (or... other points we don't know about).

Any suggestions would be welcomed (or if you would like to PM, I'll keep an eye on those too).

Thanks,
Sunbeam

PS: If any local (to where we launch from) Brats would like to buff your C-Dory, we'd be happy to leave the buffer with you while we're on the water and just pick it up when we become land-borne again.

There are seveal camp grounds in the anacortes are that have power. The casino just across from twin bridges is one. Also the RV park in La conner right across from the marina. Nice spot that is not used a lot.

Fidalgo Bay Rv resort just before anacortes
Light house Rv park and Storage in skyline marina.
Advance Resorts of america in la conner.

or if you want you camp in my drive way for a night and buff the boat if mine gets buffed too.
 no really you can, I have lots of room.

Look up Washington Park in Anacortes. It's a beautiful place with camping, a boat ramp, trails to hike and great views. Shortest distance to the San Juans. It is less than a mile from Skyline Marina. There is a boat yard there, but you could probably wax your boat in one of the parking lots in that area, instead of the yard.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions - I'm now busily checking into them. Much appreciated! (And more are welcomed.)

Starcraft Tom: If we painted the house too, could we stay for two nights? Seriously though, thank you for the driveway offer-- that's the sort of thing that makes the forum so neat :thup

We nabbed a camping spot for now (between Canada Day and the 4th of July coming up, pickings were slim!), and will sort ourselves out and then figure out the next step. Thanks to everyone who made suggestions - it's great to have ideas to check out - and invitations. Can't complain about the 10-day forecast, that's for sure :thup

Oh believe me Sunbeam. There's going to be plenty of Northwesterners complaining about 80 to 90° heat!

Peter is right. Washing the boat down today, it was ok to get in front of the hose a time or two. Hope that stable high stays stable. What a beautiful weekend on the water.

Hope your trip comes together well. Enjoy.

Sunny Sequim has been in the 70's, and just perfect. Life is good in the "Blue Hole"

SunBeam, Hope you are having a great 4th. Wishes for a some great cruising ahead. I'll be good to get it on the water again.
