Is it easy to make the switch? What make and/or model is it? Does anyone have a used one for sale?

Marty-

You can buy a wheel like that at most marine outlets. It's called a "destroyer" style wheel. There are tons of them on eBay for cheap (Chinese origin). These will work just fine.

Most modern marine wheels for runabouts have the same spline and shaft pattern, at least as far as I know.

One note of caution: Wheel diameters can run from 11 to over 15 inches. Be sure there will be enough room for your thighs under the new wheel.

Are you planning on adding a "suicide"/"necker" knob on the new wheel? (More clearance required!)

Good steering!

I like your current wheel and would add a steering knob and jazz up the wheel hub with a wood insert with the ship's name

I believe the wheel you want is made by Sea Dog, and is available at lots of marine distrubutors. I understand that it fits the standard tapered shaft that protrudes from typical hydraulic steering "helm" units.

Given that the wheel of your dreams is the same (I'm fairly certain) "standard wheel" in our CD-25, I suspect changing over is any easy chore.

But ... do you really want to? The spokes on our wheel are showing some rusl-like corrosion, which is kinda odd for a stainless steel wheel. We've actually had thoughts of replacing our wheel with a good destroyer wheel.
