Went thru the Ballard Locks with a friend at about 8:15 this morning on tghe way to the fishing grounds. Cruised over to Kingston to pick up the 3rd person. Water a little rough, wind gusting, but we cruised at about 25-27 MPH.Took about 15 minutes after clearing the locks.

OK, ran north of Presidents Point at Jeff Head , then just north of the ferry' saw very little on the fish finder. Back to south of Pres Pt, a little better but nothing to troll about. Ran over toward Indianola, ah ha, now we're talking. Lots of bait, lines down red racer flasher and candlefish lures. Oh, my gosh Pulled up maybe 8-10 shakers, lost count..all in about 30 minutes with 2 rods. We're ready for the big stuff and my pole twitches and then buries- the race is on. I net a nice 7 pound blackmouth and bdfore my friend Barry can clear the net his pole goes down. He sees a nice keeper about 10 feet from the boat and it spits the hook. Darn! He resets and blam his line is spooling out. Matt gets the net ou and nets a very nice fish head'. Oh,Oh seals. y pole is out again and it jerks again and I've got a good one. I hand the pole to Matt who fights the fish and then wham the line spools out and he can't bring it in. Drat!! Fish comes to surface, very nice, but hes in the jaws of a seal. Seal swallos fish and is now apparently hooked. About 60 feet of line out , I put boat in reverse and back toward seal, get about 30 feet of line back, seal approaches boat and dives . We cleat off line ( 80 # test line) put on gloves and pull in line hand over handto within 8 feet of boat. Seal doesnt lik and power diveserks free and rocets back into boat. Whewww, flasher and lure ok but factory hook has broken off.

We get 2 more fish on board, but each time we fight a seal, h bites the underberry of yhr fish and we power jerks it feom the seal and pull our fish aboard, nearly gutted but useable. The bite is on and we hook another, seal is racing in from about 150 ft . Barry reels as fast as he can, fish within 10 feet of boat seal lunges and grabs fish tail, bur Barry jerks hard ,fish comes free and flies to the transon we pull him in by and.

Lost track,b ut I think the score was boat 2 seals 6. Probably had about 20 hookups but 3 keepers. A very exciting day ,action packed, also frustrating.

We were alone, no other boats out.

sounds like a lot of fun on the water to me ,which beats the hell out of working. you should get a paint ball gun for the seals. Its what the WDFW recommends.

Awesome day(except the seals) to be on the water. It put a smile on my face as we have to contend with those rascals on the Rogue. Pesky varmints. Thanks for sharing your day.
