West Michigan C-Brat Wannabes

Hi,

We are very interested in looking at C-dory boats (the larger boats, 25, 26 and Tomcat 255).

We live in the West Michigan area and the trip to the Northwest is out of the question at this point. Are there any owners in the Midwest who would be willing to meet with us and give us a walk through sometime during the coming boating season?

I know it's the middle of winter, but we are experiencing serious boat envy and making plans for our summer.
 
As with my reply to you on Facebook, I would be happy to show you C-Traveler, my 25, if you are in the Madison, WI area. I do travel a lot over the summer, with trips already planned for March, May and June. There is a gathering at Hontoon State Park in Florida in March, that if you can make it there, you'd very likely have access to see all the models of C-Dorys along with an excellent opportunity to pick everyone's brains, and likely score some water time in the various models. (And personally speaking from experience, March is an excellent time to head south out of our cold midwest winter!) Colby

The Hontoon State Park get together sounds terrific, but I teach and can't get away that week.

We do have kids and grandkids in Madison. Maybe we could arrange a time to meet later this year. We travel to Wisconsin frequently throughout the year.

I'm in Traverse City.

I had a C-Dory 26 Venture for a few years and explored by trailering it mostly
East, Gulf coasts and North Channel/Georgian Bay areas ; protected waters.

Near home, in Grand Traverse Bay and on Lake Michigan it was fine picking
weather windows and favorable sea states island hopping, gunk holing, etc.

Lake Michigan can be very nasty; aka "Lake of a Thousand Moods". When
howling, the big freighters seek safe harbor in some of the Bay's protected water.

Hence, for general use, a 26 C-Dory is a protected water vessel IMHO.

"Large area" is somewhat nebulous.

Lake Michigan is a large lake, second largest Great Lake.

By this I mean its
Area is over 22K sq miles,
Length is 307 miles,
Width (max) is 118 miles,
Shoreline is 1,659 miles,
Depth (max) is 925 feet,
Depth (ave) is 279 feet.

Some would call it huge, not large.

But since they said "west Michigan" they are only talking about 1/2 of huge. The other half is east Wisconsin.
 
Half of huge is still big. Really big.

Anyway, we share the "entire" lake with all mariners, even sailors, jet skiers and
snowmobilers. There's room enough for everyone even tho everyone, who does
not know or respect its reputation, should not indulge its allure.
