West Marine - Seattle/Portland?

We are heading south through the Seattle area to Portland this weekend and I want to stop at WM and do some shopping. Now we all know that (except for C-Dorys) size matters. The WM in Friday Harbor is excellent but quite small and limited in selection. I need a BIG one.

If I wait until I get to Portland it looks like the option is Tigard. I don't know how big they are but their hours of operation are short. Am I better to stop at, for example, Olympia? It looks like I could simply drop off 101 just before I join the 5. Advice anyone?

Many thanks

Don't know answer to your specific question but if I was in Seattle I would go to Fisheries Supply.

The WM in Seattle used to be good but I believe it moved (?)

There's a good sized West Marine in Seattle about 3-4 blocks from my office.West Marine - 1275 Westlake Avenue North - Seattle, WA (206) 926-0356. They seem to be open until 7PM everyday except Sun when they close at 5PM.

However as was suggested above, I'd stop in at Fisheries Supply instead. They have a larger selection and better prices on most items. Also, they don't sell "West Marine" branded items which can range from good to complete crap depending on who WM contracted with to make the item. Fisheries is at
1900 N Northlake Way
Seattle, WA 98103
TEL (US): 800.426.6930
They are open Mon-Sat 9-6 and Sun 9-2.

Another option would be to hit LFS in Bellingham. They are a particularly good place to buy crab and shrimping gear but also carry a wide range of stock. Also better pricing than West Marine.

There's a brand new, very large WM in Portland, as soon as you cross over the Columbia River on the I-5 bridge. Take the Jantzen Beach/Hayden Island exit immediately after the bridge and go straight at the light at the end of the off-ramp. This will put you into a large shopping complex. West Marine is to the left.
Oh, and did I mention there's no sales tax in Oregon so if there's a big ticket item on your wish list, it's a no brainer.

The new West Marine in Portland is just off I-5. It opened last year and according to the WM press releases, it's the largest West Marine store in the PNW.

West Marine will be opening its newest Flagship Store July 18th at Jantzen Beach Center in Portland, Oregon. At 25,000 square feet it will be the largest West Marine location in the northwest, more than doubling the size of its current Portland location at Delta Park. Citing diverse and broad boating interests, expanding sportfishing opportunity on the Columbia River and anticipated growth in local boating, West Marine is initiating this significant expansion and has planned a multi-day grand opening event at the new store, July 18th – 21st.

The new Flagship Store will feature a full selection of boating equipment for motorized and non-motorized water-lovers including nearly a hundred different marine electronics touch and test; fishing and boating apparel; fishing equipment tailored to local fisheries; outboard motors; safety equipment; a full engine parts counter; 7 day a week access; the area’s most extensive assortment of maintenance supplies, trailer accessories and sailboat hardware; kayaks and paddling equipment; and West Marine’s “no hassle” return policy.

That sounds perfect! A BIG store and no sales tax! Good info. from C-Brats when the Storefinder on West Marine's website doesn't show this store. MUCH appreciated.

Agree here :!: :thup :thup

This is the PNW flagship, and I believe it is the largest WM on the west coast. Easy access from I-5 South Bound and nice folks too, whom actually know something about boating.

Enjoy that gift card

Harvey,
You got it right. That WM in Jantzen Beach is big. Worth the stop if anyone goes down that way. Easy off and on I-5, and as previously mentioned no tax in Oregon.

Thanks again for the tip. I spent a very pleasant hour yesterday. Like a kid in a candy store! I asked why they were not shown on the WM site and was told that the old store in Portland had been deleted and nobody knew how to add the new one. Go figure!
