Want to cruise the CR Bar?

This week would be a great time to get the whole experience. We're supposed to be getting triple-digit winds and three-story waves Thursday night. NOAA says waves to 44', WetSand says waves 42' to 63'. I sure hope they flatten out before they reach the beach.

I am leaving the boat in the slip for the blow. The basin is in a little hole and the biggest gusts go over the top. I figure it is just as safe there as in the driveway on the trailer.

Sure - what time do you want to go out? If we're gonna drop our crab pots out there, we'll need a little extra weight - I'll pick up a couple of chevy small blocks on my way to meet you.

man that sounds like it would be fun, but, alas, I'm stuck here in Maui with flat seas and no boat. I hope the Tyboo rides out safely

I don't like crossing that bar in good weather....I can't imagine what it's going to look like tonight...we're hoping we don't have fir visitors in our house overnight...got 2 really tall ones on the west side of the house...usually when they drop branches, it's a southerly wind like tonight, so they land on the deck or side yard....we have an escape route planned if we hear any loud >cracks< :smileo

Caty, you still up and running out there? We just got power back on in stayton early this morning. I have an employee up in gates who had to take the long way to get in this morning. Hwy 22 is blocked, or at least was a couple hours ago. ODOT has their hands full this morning. My list of slides in our region is at 420 and growing.

I would guess that on the west sides of oregon and washington there are currently at least a couple million without power. Sounds like there were at least three deaths in washington last night due to drowning or storm caused accidents. Central Oregon coast recorded winds of upwards of 100 mph. They only got to about 70 in the foothills of the cascades where I live. But there were a lot of garbage cans and debris sailing by the windows last night. I took the cover off my boat and camper. Too late on the camper, some of the grommets had already torn out. Baked christmas cookies in the camper last night.

Cruising the Columbia River Bar up there in those conditions makes about as much sense as climbing Ht. Hood does.
You wonder why people do things like that. It is not as if this storm was a surprise. Knew it was coming close to a week before it hit, just didn't know how bad it would be.

It's Tuesday evening and I still do not have power back on. I was told it may be Thursday before we do.

I am heading home from one job site south of Aberdeen to Harstine Island -I will be going near Olympia - I understand your power is out - do you have alternative heat or do you need anything?

Jim - I really appreciate the offer, but we have everything we need. I am sorry I did not get back to you sooner. I only go on line at the office until we get power back on, so have been unable to keep up on the post here. I just now saw this one. I figure I am about 275 behind and maybe over the Christmas holidays, I may catch up if we have our power restored by then.
