Wallas Woes

We have had a Wallas for 6 years, used every day for at least two hours for about half that time, and have used Kleen Heat for about 4 of the most recent of those years. Began having problems igniting for its last six months (needed to have shore power or engines on to ignite).

Now have replaced it with another Wallas and have been using the new stove daily for min of 4 hours a day for the past month -- only Kleen Heat -- runs perfectly.

Klean Heat is nearly odorless, maybe 1/4 (or less) the odor of regular kerosene. Another property, I haven't detected any deterioration of its strength or quality in my 1 1/2 yr old stock (since purchased, don't know when manufactured). I see no residue or precipitation whatsoever at the bottom. Wonder what its shelf life is before it loses a substantial amount of its volatility and other properties -- any petroleum chemists out there want to venture a guess?

Scan Marine vocally admonishes anything but diesel to be used in the Wallas, yet when pressed about Klean Heat, they say they're not really familiar with it -- an honest answer. They're most concerned with its lubrication properties for the pump mechanism, they just don't know. I'll continue to use it until convinced otherwise -- it's just so clean and practically odorless.

My 2c.

We are brand new boat owners and have yet to try out our Wallas - but I'm trying to gather as much information as I can on its use. Of course there is a LOT of useful information on this forum - but is there suppose to be a manual that comes with the Wallas as well? The 'manual' we got with from C-Dory has a one pager on the Wallas - is there suppose to be more?

Just 'googling' - I came accross the following "fitting guide" for the Wallas 85DU (which I think is what is on the boat - need to check).

Would appreciate any other references that may be out there. Thanks!

We did not get a manual with either of our Wallases - I think there is a manual, and wonder why it does not come with the boat. In fact, we did not get a "manual" with our CD25, only a notebook with a collection of component manuals. In another thread, somebody said C-Dory now provides a manual for the CD25. Perhaps somebody who has a manual for the Wallas could PDF it up...

There is a paper manual for the CD-25. Some of it is unique (such as wiring diagrams) and much of it is a collection of individual vendor manuals. It isn't the most complete document in the world but it is sometimes helpful. If I had a scanner and software to create a PDF I'd be happy to create an automated version, but I have neither.

I was given a Wallas manual with the boat. It's main focus is installation with a couple of small pieces on operating instructions. I read on one of these threads that the only true service manual is written in Finnish.

The "manual" I had was just two typewritten sheets - no spectacular info.

Re: the initial problems of this thread, I think sometimes you have to help "prime" the pump by either pressing gently on the sides of fuel tank, and/or raising the fuel tank up so the fluid level is closer to that of the stove workings. I know that if one overdoes this, that little pan will overflow with fuel, but it worked on my unit.

I appreciate the input.

The TC 255 'manual' I got was a notebook as well, generally consisting of copies of product brochures, etc (but still helpful).

In terms of the Wallace - I suppose that if someone had the time, they could assemble all the advice that has been shared here on C-Brats site and assemble a pretty helpful document.

The Wallas "manual" to which I was referring was downloaded from a link listed somewhere on this site. It basically diagrammed taking the stove apart and putting it back together. No specific operating instructions.

As for the TomCat 255, I did not even get a "notebook". I did get a pile of instructions from the various electronic equipment venders. No listing of what switch operates what, nor what valve operates what. I pretty much have had to crawl around and figure all that out on my own.

Dan -

Just my two cents, but I think a C-Brat/boat owner created 'user manual' is a great idea. As previously noted - I'm new to boating (and don't know anything about the Wallace), but would be glad to help edit.

This might be a good model for other topics as well?
