VHF Shipping Channels

Can anyone tell me what is the best VHF channel to monitor for commercial shipping activity in the Everett, Seattle, and Bremerton area. At one time I thought I had found it, but didn't have any success last week in locating it.

If you look on your current charts, you will find that, in the Puget Sound area, there are two channels to be monitored. There is a line you cross on the North end where you have to change from one to the other. At least that is my vague memory for now...

Also, I think another C-Brat from the area will give you more specific advice.

The Coast Guard uses Ch 14 to talk to bigger vessels and lets
each other know where everyone is at and what their speeds and
destinations are. I think vessels of a certain size have to be part of
the net held by Vessel Control in Seattle. Bob Heselberg Eatonville Wa
 
13 is used for bridge to bridge (as in wheel house) communications for commercial traffic. I have my VHF set to scan between 16 and 13. Commercial vessels will announce on 13 when they are leaving the dock, where they are going, how they may want to negotiate a pass with another vessel, etc.
 
Thanks fellow C-Brats for your input. I'd been using 13, but couldn't remember the other channel to use. The answer came up for certain with the site Larry referred me to. The area I'm currently interested in is Everett South which is 14 and Everett North is 5A, which encompasses the San Juans.
 
Channel 5 is the channel for the northern part of Puget Sound and San Juans.
