Verizon Plan changes on Thursday

If you are a Verizon wireless customer, you may want to check the link below and maybe some of the related links from that page. They are changing their pricing plans and if you are a smartphone user grandfathered into the unlimited data plan, you may want to upgrade before Thursday this week.

It sounds like the new plans are data centric and no longer tied to voice/messaging use so those of us who use less minutes/messages may be paying a bit more at the next plan change.

If you have a grandfathered unlimited data plan, you can keep it ( unlike earlier reports). IMHO you don't want to switch plans if you use much data as the unlimited plan is still the cheapest.

If you get a new phone, can u keep the unlimited plan?

I just read the May 17 Verizon PR and existing unlimited data customers can keep their existing plan and device but if they upgrade to a new device then the unlimited plan is gone

That is correct if you upgrade after June 28 AND you want the subsidized phone price. If you upgrade the phone in the next 2 days OR are willing to pay full price later, you can keep the unlimited data plan.

Just upgraded my Droid X to a Samsung Galaxy IIIS. Pretty painful due to Hughesnet slow ISP. You can only keep the unlimited data plan if you do not have the mobile hot spot feature. If you do have it, it makes you chose either 2GB, 4GB or 7GB of data. The 2GB price is about the same and hopefully I'll come under that limit. Still cost me $169 for the privilege of staying with Verizon where I get spotty 3G here and no 4G for the foreseeable future. No other providers work any better though. Just too far in the boonies. That's a plus for us, not a minus.

What happens to the apps (like Navionics) that I paid for on the Droid, anybody know? The phone is backed up to Lookout, maybe I can download that stuff? Including my contacts?

Guess I won't live long enough for them to implant a phone in my head...

I just went from the Droid X to the Razr. Everything transfered to the new 4G including Navionics. Stayed with the unlimited plan. Transferre Kates old flip phone to my "old" Droid X. got to love Costco.

Ah, I finally found out how people do double posts. Instead of using the edit button on the posted post (within 30 minutes) they go back with the back arrow to the original post and add to it. And you get two posts.
