Has anybody done anything to improve the crappy curtain that covers the wiring in the vberth? We got our new boat yesterday and some of the velcro is already coming off. Before just putting more velcro on, thought maybe there was some smart mod somebody did already? Thanks

The older C-dorys had snaps attaching that cover, works great.

Even earlier boats had a fiberglass cover that not only looks good but is a proper way to cover the wiring...wonder why the company does not make that panel anymore.?

JMR-TOO has a 2003 boat and has the canvas and I have a 2003 and I have the panel...so I guess that is when they quit making them...

I too would like to see what others have done to make a hard cover over the electrical business behind the helm.
Our 1999 CD22 had the fiberglass cover. Made for a nice finish. Our CD25 just has the fabric cover and I have never liked it.

JMRII was a 1991 22' cruiser, it also had the canvas & snaps.

I would bet that the company still has the mold for the fiberglass piece...if enough folks asked them ...possibly they would make them available to those that wanted them...it really would not be hard to make a mold from an existing piece...

My '07 has the fabric and snaps. It is some sort of plasticized material. It could be better but it gets the job done.
 
Fabric and snaps here, but we added a 3/8in panel of closed cell foam cut to fit on the inside of the fabric and it adds shape/smoothness to the covering and pads/protects any bumps to the panel by v berth dwellers. Cheap and quick,

My 2000 model has the molded fiberglass cover that is screwed in place at the top and bottom flange. Though it does look better than the canvas (IMO), the canvas can quickly be removed to change fuses, if needed.
I remember seeing a photo of another Brats' boat that had been modified by placing a small piece of wood trim at the top and bottom flange (the trim was slotted), to allow the fiberglass panel to slide inboard for removal (no screws or snaps to deal with).
This is one mod that is on MY list...
 
Our 2000 had the fiberglass cover too. When I added hydraulic steering & a auto pilot an aluminum extension had to be added to the fiberglass. This took up more more room than I liked, along with the hassle of removing it, whenever access to the electrical was needed, made me switch to a vinyl type covering with snaps. I much prefer the look & ease of access of the vinyl & snaps over the solid fiberglass. I sleep on that side or the middle & have not had a problem of head contact messing with the electric. The hydraulic hoses from the auto pilot & regular hydraulic steering hoses do a good job of creating a protective buffer just under the cover.

I presume my "solution" will be considered a bad idea (and maybe it is....I'd be interested if someone thinks so); but I simply removed the canvas cover and never looked back. My wife sleeps on that side (feet toward bow), and she clears the naked wires easily. Doesn't seem to be a problem.
 
I know other Brats created hard covers for the electrical area behind the helm but I just know Bruce on Carpy came up with a great one. Bruce was a true master craftsman and is greatly missed. Check out his albums. He was truly amazing. RIP Bruce.

Thanks for the post with Bruce's photo. This IS the photo that I was trying to describe in my note.
Now that this is fresh in my mind, I may have to move ahead and make it happen, as I am tired of the screws that eventually wear out their mounting holes through normal boat movement/vibration.

I always liked that mod. I copied it for my 22. Didn't do quite as nice a job as Bruce, but liked the result.
 
Cool! I have nearly an identical fiberglass panel covering the helm wiring in the TyBoo. I believe mine is an original Toland factory item from 1996, but the previous owner of my boat may have made it. When I first got the boat it was screwed in place at the top and I made a piece to allow it to slide out like Bruce on Carpy did. Not quite as fancy though!
