V-berth in the 16' cruiser

A bit cramped. I am 6'2" and my wife is average sized, but has a little claustrophobia going on so she sleeps on the open port side. I can fit fine behind the dash. The place where it gets crowded is at the foot end. I have been thinking about putting the travasak away and opting for individual bedding systems and then extending the wifes' side out to near the seat so she can have more light and air. That would move her feet up to a wider spot in the hull. But it is still doable for short trips. The most we have ever stayed out continuously was eight days.

Well, it is 6' long, about 4 1/2 to 5' wide and pretty narrow at the bow. I can get better measurements on the width when I get home if no one else does before then.

Mine is a little longer than that because I took that bulkhead out with those little pieces of foam. Makes a big difference. But I am glad I took it out.

On the new boats, that forward bulkhead is glassed in place and injected with foam. Don't know what year they started doing it this way. Our album has pictures of this, including converting that area into an anchor locker.

I made a bed extension for us and our 2 beagles. The boards were from the floor of an old inflatable and are simply held together with velcro. They store flat under the matress on the port side. On top I have a body pillow to fill it in (sorry no picture). It's strong enough to kneel or sit on. We like to sleep with our heads toward the bow and this allows us to scoot down a bit and not bang our heads on the fiberglass.

Sea Beagle, awesome idea. I am definitely going to extend my berth for comfort. Just a piece of plywood stowed under the mattress should work I would think.

Plywood should work. My boards are approx 3/8" thick. All of those boards are the same size. I even used another piece for my overhead shelf.
