I can get up to 4 guest tickets for the commissioning of DDG 108 to be held at Penn's Landing in Philadelphia on Saturday 10 October at 1300. If anyone wants these tickets, please let me know asap as they will have to be mailed to me and then on to you. I'll be in Maine so there will be a forwarding delay too.

DDG 108 is an Arleigh Burke Class Guided Missile Destroyer. If you have not been to a ceremony like this before, you will be impressed.

We can't go, we'll be at our home in Maine.

I also expect to have some invites to the USS New York (LPD 21) Commissioning in New York City in November.

Jeeze, Charlie, a great offer. I'd go but I don't do "Targets." If you run across any Submarine commissioning tix though, please put me in the lottery for 'em. By the way, nice fleet ya got there.

What an honor - wish I could attend.

I'm sure that a commissioning is a REAL ceremony. A friend of mine was on the Kitty Hawk for commissioning, and recently did the Tiger cruise and de-commissioning. The USAF just bought the things, then scraps them out - not much in the way of memory making ceremony in either of these.

I sure hope you were referring to airplanes with the USAF comment. USAF did buy a few boats but they were mainly for MWR. All they do with airplanes is hold a little ceremony for one of them and then send it to DM for scrap. The lucky ones get to be static displays.
 
Just to bring this back to the top, I now have 4 guest tickets in hand and will send priority mail to the first requester.

It's at Penn's Landing in Phila next Saturday, 10 October at 1PM (1300). Tickets will be required, along with photo identification due to security. Directions will be in the package with the tickets.

If you have not been to a USN Comissioning before (or even if you have), this is a unque experience. Ask soon if you think you can go, I can mail them tomorrow.

I have two tickets as well for the USS NEW YORK comissioning in NYC on 7 November but have to request these in your name and need names shortly to get them in time. Will post separately about that.
