Urgent help needed -- New outboard trim gauge not working

We are picking up our 2005 25' Cruiser tomorrow (Yay!). It has 2 Honda 90 outboard motors. Both of the trim gauges were not working. They were replaced. One is still not working. Any thoughts on what might be the issue?
We are going to pick it up at 10 tomorrow (Saturday) & would love some help before that time - because if it's something more serious we may choose to leave the boat & have the owner fix it (he agreed to have them both working). If it's something pretty minor we will just take our boat & fix it ourselves (this is what we are hoping for!!!).

Thanks for your help!

Only help I can think of is to check all the wiring, not just the ends. If a wire is damaged somewhere along the way having good connections is not going to help. Test the wires for continuity. If they are ok then the trouble is in the gage or the motor. other then that have the owner fix it. It may take a few days but it will be right before you leave.

I am not sure on the Honda 90s but most of these trim gauges have a mechanical lever back at the motor pivot and they get stuck from either corrosion or dirt. A lot of times all it takes is some lubrication and moving the lever back and forth a few times manually to fix the problem.

Ripple is Right (sounds like a slogan!). It's probably the sender. I'd take the boat if everything else is OK and have the seller agree to pay for whatever you have to do to get it fixed. Don't miss a day on the water for things like this! If the Honda's are like my Suzis, they link together and trim together with one switch but two indicators. This should't be a deal breaker.

Enjoy the new boat!

The little levers that control the sending units have stuck in place several times on my Honda 90's. Once you find them, and get them freed up, it's a good idea to shot a little silicone on them from time to time.
I try and remember to check them before putting the boat in the water.
