Oh my goodness. I have to confess. For as long as I have been on this site, I have groused about not having a "search" function, and could never understand why folks were saying "just do a search".

Today, I guess I opened my eyes, because behold... next to the "view posts since last visit" is the little word "Search". Further more, when you click on it, you can look for keywords and handy things like that. I am not sure whether I am blind or stupid, but I sure feel like I have a case of the "Delta Sierras" .

Good grief!

Steve

Some folks don't like the search feature on here but I think it works pretty good.

The Gallery search function for finding photo albums used to be pretty handy too but it didn't work for me the last few times I tried it.

I just did a Google search to figure what it means to have a case of the Delta Sierras but I don't think I found it. Is it something you can safely explain?

Mike,

Being the old Marine Gunnery Sergeant, I have to pepper my language every now and then. The "Delta" is an euphemism for the word "dumb". The "Sierra" is for the word "sh__". Or in other words, I feel pretty stupid.

I use the Search function quite a bit, but often have to resort to looking though the Library Forum threads for specific items.

The problem is that so many topics are so closely related and some terms used so frequently that you can put in a word like "anchor" or "battery" and get thousands of hits, maybe 64 pages of threads!

You have to find a unique word to your topic like "Fortress" or "specific gravity" to narrow down the hits to be able to look through them.

I've got a pretty good memory, so that helps a bit, but we need someone wwho really understands some of the tricks of using search engines to help us learn to use ours more efficiently.

I even asked for some help in using the earch function once. Here's the thread:

Search Engine Techniques Refined for Better Results

As a E-4 I always knew Gunnys where slow but man. You logged on in 2005, thats three year gunny. funny as I read this the boy called from jacksonville bored. I told him all small towns are the same and you can only give away so many one dollar bills.

Tom,

I am not sure if the issue was slowness, or just plain lack of paying attention. Following my days in the Marine Corps, I made my living in IT, and of course, any programmer worth his salt would say that the other programmer didn't do it right. Could be that I just got caught up in my sense of "professionalism", and a whole bunch of complacency.

By the way, I had as many rockers, as you had stripes. Therefore, I must be right, regardless of the issue.....

Chuck, a semper fi right back to you!

Kind Regards,

Steve

Why sure, I can see it now. I thought maybe you were making fun of the environmentalist mountain climbers, of which there is a group with a name the same as the term you cited. Wow. I wonder if they know?

As an E5 A/C electrician "Phantom Phixer" (VMFA 251 and VMFA 115) and later flight test engineer (HMM 364) on H34s (how come I only got 50% flight pay?) I can think of at least 1000 times the obvious was overlooked by product designers and engineers. 8>))

Ooops!

My little tongue in check jab at the Marines was all in jest!!
My brother was a 3 purple heart WWII Marine, and my Marine brother-in-law was dumb enough to cover a grenade thrown in his gun position in Korea. One of the "Chosin Few."

Absolute, no sierra, total respect!!

Dusty,

No need to apologize, it's all in fun, and we are all in it together.

Bill, I was an A/C electrician (AE A school and AE B school) like you. HMM 364 had 46's when I got to Viet Nam. I was in VMO 2, VMO 6, a couple of MARTDs (Seattle, Whidbey and New Orleans), and a stint with H&MS 24 on their flight line. Most of my time was either with various helicopters, OV-10s, and a few transports like the really old stuff (C117, C119, C131). My last stint was as the QA chief for MARTD New Orleans.

Getting back to the search issue  I have found the Google "advanced" search to work much better than the built-in C-Brat site search. Go to Google, click on advanced, and enter your search, but make sure you put www.c-brats.com in the site field. The one situation where the built-in search works better is when you are searching for a post from a specific member.

Never enjoyed flying in those, so I jumped out of every one of those I flew in.....never landed in one.

Doryman-

Thanks, Warren!

That's a great addition to simply using the built-in Search Engine on our site, and exactly what I've been looking for!

Clean, easy explanation, too! :star :star :star :star :star :star
