For any one that is interested, I just posted my pics of the Alcan trip. There in my new album at the very end of the list. Purchased the boat from Oregon, had it deliverd to Everett, then rented a Uhaul and towed it all the way to Alaska.

Wow, this would be my plan except I'd be towing to Calgary. Any further info you'd be willing to share about how you found this great boat and your future plans with outfitting/refitting would be really interesting to me (and to others I'm sure). Your boat looks great as is! I'm glad to see the boat suffered no damage from the road debris (gravel etc.), you must have been cringing at times. Feel free to brag about the boat now that you've got it, that's the kind of stuff I want to read. Happy boating.

Funny You should mention "rocks & gravel". Shortly after crossing the border into Canada it got really slushy and completely covered the boat. I then headed into the mountains where it froze solid, creating a 1/2" protective barrier of ice. It lasted almost the whole way. I don't believe I got one rock chip.

I found the boat on the C-Dogs site. I had been looking about a year. I plan on fabbing up a radar arch this summer. My uncle says that he'll buy me a new tube bender if I make him one for his boat. Other upgrades include Wallas Heater (small one that only does heat), trim tabs, Windlass, and most important a new 4 stroke, preferably the cheapest I can find. Oh yea a nice dingy like the RedFox has. Probobly will take me a few years to afford all this stuff. I do plan on the 4 stroke this summer if the Bayliner sells.

Speaking of used 4 strokes, theres a guy here in Soldotna that has a 130 Honda for $7300.00. To bad.. a little to big for my needs. So if anybody in the AK is looking let me know.
 
That trip is sure fun! Never did stop at the hot springs. :cry: We did the trip7 times in 03-04, that is 3.5 round trips from S.C. to Seward and not a one in the summer, my knuckles are still white! We did 3 with a 12,000 lb trailer at 11,999 lbs or a smidg more, all with a camper on top. One trip we had 2 cat's and a dog, all with health certificates. We also had 4 gold fish and we didn't have a health cert for them and they wanted one, I asked, what a vet was going to do to a fish, and they let us go.

Did you see any other wildlife. We saw a wolverine, goats, sheep, bears, elk, moose, caribou, bison and some Alaskans with their hair all the colors of the rainbow and then some. We saw a really neat wolf, a dark one with the yellow eyes 20 yds off the road near Teslin, he just stood there and watched us with the diesel rattling away.

When we do it again we will have to try it with a C-D on the back, sounds like a lot more fun. Were going C-D shopping in the big city in the morning.

Hmm lets see.. I saw buffalo, caribou, and a moose that was almost black. Never seen a moose quite like that one and I've seen allot. One night after driving 22 hrs strait I started seeing all kinds of things on the road....Scary things.:twisted: I knew it was time to pull over at that point :shock:

Hey! I was shopping for a nice TIG, and lucked-out, and was sold a pipe bender for cheap! it even had this cool-assed stand he fabbed-up himself... all ready-to-go!!
I'll probably purchase my new Lincoln 185, or Miller 180 TIG machine from them. They are the outfit right across from NC Machinery :thup Very tough competition (welding supply) :shock: . For me its a lot-a-fun :teeth Can't wait to get all the proper stuff... :xtongue
 
OH... :xseek BTW: That Honda 130 would be perfect for your 22 :!: :!: :smilep :thup (get the picture here :wink: :lol: ) Seriously, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Like I said before; it's a good thing for C-Dorys to have a lot of weight on their transoms :idea: :thup You will have a better handling boat in the trailing sea (which is sort of a bummer to these fine-craft) You'll definitely need some big trim tabs to host that big heavy motor though! I had a Johnson 140 on RedFox... it was perfect! But I like the heavier 4-strokes I have now (better handling) you can get away with stuffing more crap into the cabin that way, and not off-set the balance so bad, if you have a lot of permanent-weight on your transom :idea :thup . Then again, I don't know about all the legalities these days... they'll probably criminalize you for sure! and you might not be covered by insurance either... :thdown might want to check into it :idea Them 130's are "Programed Fuel Injection" ... right... :?:

I'm thinking I'll make the arch out of aluminum, polish, then spray it with clearcoat. I'd like to use 1 1/2" tubing maybe even 2". It'll look just like a Cannondale frame. Hehe. For a welder I have a Hobart handler 135. Runs off 110. Does pretty well when you use gas.
 
OK.... here's the scoop on pipe-benders in Stupid Anchorage. I don't think there are any. When I was calling around a couple weeks ago i was told by the fella I bought mine from "you pretty much have to order one from the States" none of the dummys up here carry anything so logical and simple! :roll:
Also, a friend of mine (runs his own fab-shop) told me the same, and sujested "Northern Tool" for a cheap but good one :thup (China slave-labor model) His has been great for a few years now, has not pooped on him to date :| ... :smile ... :idea So thats what I found from one of the sales peep that works at "Air Liquide" there on Arctic Blvd.
Again, I lucked-out I guess :star I was told by both "the freight cost more than the pipe bender itself :cry :disgust :thdown (we third-world Alaskans are used to that right! :amgry )
I'll rent mine to ya if you need it. Let me know. Or I may start producing them for C-Dorys if there is interest... :idea

Anyway, that link shows the one I was wanting to order from Northern Tool. I have the cheaper 89-dollar model. It's a 12-ton.

I'm thinkin to favor large-diameter aluminum tube over stainless! I like the big-tube look, and rigidity. Also, one can get it powdercoated to any color :idea :xtongue or do what works well for me ... spray paint it with that "cold galvanize" stuff :thup cheap and last/looks good for years! Even almost matches the dark-grey on the Yamaha :smilep :star
