Trim tab question

Still fooling around at the drawingboard. Current thinking is that if portapotti's a major problem for us we can find out much cheaper in a 22 than a 23. So we're looking at a used 22 without trim tabs. Question: How essential are trim tabs considered to be? Especially to someone completely new to C-Dorys (if that makes a difference).
 
I would not recommend owning the 22' cdory cruiser without trim tabs. In my opinion, trim tabs are a must.

You could always have the trim tabs added if you purchase a boat without them.

The Duck has trim tabs and a permatrim copy (bobs machine shop) also a 90hp suzuki with over 3yrs left on warranty with s/s prop and all suzuki gauges

They are not Mandatory. But once you ride in a 22 C-Dory with them they will become Mandatory!! :mrgreen: :beer
 
If you travel almost exclusively on flat water inland lakes and have very even lateral loading of the boat (persons, gear) they are not essential.

But in frequent chop, and especially if your ballast (persons, gear) cannot be moved easily, they are invaluable.

A hydrofoil on the motor can deal largely with bow down trim for chop, but side to side (lateral) trim requires tabs.
