I am headed up to Canada in a few weeks to help get my daughter settled in grad school at McGill in Montreal. I have some free time so I figured I would wander around for a bit and do some tent camping and lots of biking. It's not practical to haul the C Dory up there for this trip but I could scout out some locations for a bigger trip next summer.
I am looking for suggestions for the nicest part of the Trent Severn. I may have time to drive most of it but I'd rather pick a nice spot and camp for a few days and ride my bike along some nice trails. I will also stop at the Thousand Islands for a day of biking and camping.
I will also spend some time in Quebec City and the general area around there so I'd appreciate suggestions for that neck of the woods as well.
I biked around Ottawa last fall and may return for a day there.
Originally , I had planned to hop over to Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador while I was in the neighborhood. I checked with a friend from Quebec City and he suggested Lake Louise out by Banff instead. I told him that seemed awfully far to drive for a quick trip and he taught me some Canadian geography. Turns out the "neighborhood' is pretty darned big! It takes almost as long to drive to Halifax and then Labrador from Montreal as it does to drive to Lake Louise! That made Quebec City sound a lot better.
I appreciate any suggestions about sights to see, food to eat and other traveler's necessities.
