Trent Seven porta potties

Having heard many different stories on this ban. So went to the govt.
Source. Transportation Canada has ruled that a porta pottie is a legal
toilet with a portable holding tank. Makes sense to me.

Ontario however apparently over ruled the the national agency
and they are forbidden there. 3 years ago with did Rideau and no one asked
but our boat was searched at customs entering Canada from NY.

We had planned to do Trent Seven this summer. On our Venture 23 I cannot find a place to put a toilet with holding tank without destroying the boat
and going to the expense for a one trip deal. We have used porta potties
for about 45 years. Always emptying in proper place, and never charged
for doing so.

So I guess we will do Erie Canal in NY instead. Even Yellowstone pristine lake
in The Park has no such rule. We have boated overnight for years there.

he Trent Severn is long ways between stops. In old age we need frequent
stops. Guess boaters will go over the side. With no treatment.

You can use a boat with a y valve that is locked in in tank mode and if you
go in ocean you can switch to over the overboard mode. Has to be locked with
key and of course owner has the key.

Sorry for those of you who have been through this before but is all new to
me. It may help someone else that is new to this regulation

I wonder what they do to people who have babies and use disposable (paper and plastic), diapers?

Maybe a bag and bucket system would work.

I had been planning on doing the Trent Severn in July, but this Porta Potti thing keeps bugging me. Some have said don't worry about it, nobody has been checked. Yet, a few have said, however if they do.... I can just imagine how it could take just one anal inspector to ruin all the fun looked forward too. I have gotten the free Canadian passes, however I hear the Erie Canal is going free this year too with their celebration. Perhaps I may just decide to stay stateside this year and forego the concern/worry about Ontario's assinine PP rule... Colby

I did the Trent Severn last September for ten days. Great weather and avoided the summer crowds which will be worse this year? Probably not a lot more boats but perhaps more going thru locks. Most of the locals likely buy a season pass anyway. I had a porta potti and never used it. I tied up most nights on a lock wall and a couple of nights in marinas. Every lock has a restroom and during the day you go thru locks. Lots of runabouts etc out there. No one cares if you have a porta potti on board. If you have it and use it you could always dump it at a lock restroom after the lock has closed for the day and official personnel have gone home. Great trip, lots of fun. I did not anchor out which would have also been fun but had dog aboard. Some of the lock are in little towns for overnighting and some are in rural park type settings. This is a gorgeous clear water trip, narrow canals to large lakes to transit. Locks are easy, all the same cable system except for the Big Chute and the two hydraulic lift locks and those three are even easier. I was single handing and no problem with locks. I just tied one line to radar arch (my arch is at rear) and then looped the line around the lock cable and pulled the boat snug against my fenders fore and aft with that single line. I used round fenders. My stern attachment point for fender is a couple of feet in front of rear cleat.
So don't cheat yourself and stay home because of PP. Once you are there you will see how silly that concern is. Many, many boats without any kind of plumbing.

Big, over-bearing, obtrusive gobment intent on curtailing liberty. And some in this country want to emulate our friends in Ontario. I say go on your trip and enjoy. Screw them and their stupid rules.
