toyota 4 runner ability to pull a 22 c dory

i am in love with the 22 cruiser and plan a purchase shortly. i own a new V6 4 runner 4x4 rated for 5k towing. does anyone know how well a 4 runner will pull a fully loaded 22 c dory on its trailer? i am worried the 4 runner i just bought dose not have the power to pull and competently manage the boat at highway speeds . . . . thanks
 
My 2003 V6 4Runner was very well behaved and fully capable of towing/launching the Jenny B, a C-22, sitting on a tandem trailer. I would expect the newer ones have a little more torque. In the past, I've run into some vehicle manufacturers with somewhat overblown tow ratings for the engine installed. Not so with Toys. If anything, I was pleasantly surprised at the 4Runner's performance.

The ONLY caveat; I towed over moderate hills and did not climb any 6% grades while towing so I can't speak from personal experience but I wouldn't have shied away if I didn't own a bigger tow vehicle. On long trips where steep grades were expected, I used "The Beast", my Duramax diesel powered Silverado.

As for braking? I had good working trailer brakes, so it really wasn't an issue.

I have towed my 22 cruiser back and forth from Maryland to N. Carolina several times with a 2005 4Runner (6 cylinder) with ease. Have also towed the rig many other places. Average 15 mpg. If you have brakes on the trailer as mine does, the truck is a perfect match. I get 20+ mpg for my daily driving mix when not towing the rig.
 
We have a v-6 toyota 4-runner and pull our 22 without any problem. What I like best is not having a gas hog to drive around when not pulling the boat. We have mountain ranges and high elevation and still works fine. I am mainly confirming what others have said!
