Towing weight

Yes I think slowing down does wonders like I said when I slowed down to 55-60 I got 11-12 mpg and 10 doing over 65 .I got 10mpg going up because of a sticking caliper .

I'm still wondering how many use their boat as a Boaterhome ?
 
My V-10 Dodge 2500 gets 10MPG no matter what I do, not pulling, pulling something small and pulling the TC255 at 11K #. 488cu inches = :disgust But it will pass anything on the highway (except a gas station :mrgreen: )

That's why I bought a turbo-diesel. I get around 18-20 daily, and 11-12 pulling the 25. Of course, diesel used to be cheaper than unleaded but those days are gone. :roll:
 
I would have bought one too but in 2001 when I bought this truck new, the diesel was so loud in the cab that you couldn't hear the radio. Since corrected but I just couldn't put up with it.

Just got back from trailering from Sea Isle, New Jersey to Belfast Maine and back home to Pa.. About 1200 miles loaded for cruising dink, dink motor, food, cooler, ice, wine vodka tonic, fuel tanks half full, no water. Running 55/60 mph 09 3/4 ton extended cab long bed Chevy Duramax diesel with Allision trans pulling a FloatOn trandem axle aluminum trailer with a 23' Venture gets 15.5 mpg. Running 70/75 mph up and down hills gets 14.5 with the air conditioning cranked up. The truck pulls harder than a taffy maker in a snow storm. I normally run about 5 to 9 miles mph over the posted limit just to get the job done. Can't hardly hear the motor. I'm loving this truck. :D March 2011 Florida Keys , August 2011 Yellowstone and Grand Teton.

I just ordered a 2011 GMC Sierra Duramax diesel. That's after a bad experience coming home from Upstate NY broken down on the side of the road with boat in tow -- plus wife and kids. The hills and curves were challenging for my 2000 5.3l gas Tahoe loaded down with bunches of luggage and pulling a 20ft bass boat. Wife would definitely not drive it. Anyway, I was amazed at the progress they've made with diesels. The emissions are down by 40-60%, power up about 15%, gas mileage improved, noise reduced. And that's just since 2010 model year. I never thought I would buy I deisel but the more I learned the more I liked it. Esp. when I got behind the wheel. It's got the power. :thup

Well congradulations. If you like yours half as much as I like mine you will be very happy. It's kind of fun once in while smoking the compact car set leaving a stop light. People can say what they want, but the new diesels going to be the wave of the future. Audi, Mercedes, and BMW have some pretty slick cars running around in Europe which are pretty fast for oil burners. I notice no noticable odor from my truck. I never really wanted a diesel until I read about people raving about the Duramax allision combination. I have less than 8 thousand miles on it so its not even broken in yet. Good luck with yours.
