Tomcat fuel vent!!!

Just thought I would throw this out there. Tomcat owners might want to check the fuel vent on their tanks, because mine are connected to an elbow that goes straight down into the tank. No p trap or loop of hose.

I post this because it was one of the reasons in my case that a bunch of water got in the tank. Yes, it was expensive.

I believe it came this way from the factory, 2006ish.

Am in the process of changing them to some attwood vents.

Seems like quite a few of the C-Dorys were made this way. I know my 22 was, and I've seen many other 22's the same (but not all). It's as if they thought it would be best to get the vent as high up as possible (when actually it's much better to have it slightly lower and then have a loop or similar). In the case of my boat (and the other 22's with the high vents I have seen), it was so high up as to preclude any sort of loop, and there was not even the inch or so required to fit a P-trap type vent like the typical, surface-mounted Attwood ones.

What I did was fit a set of flush-mounted Attwood P-traps, which use a larger hole than the surface mounted type (because they are inset). By doing that, and enlarging the original hole "down" (instead of centering it on the old hole), I was juuuust able to fit the flush-mounted P-traps. I just mention that in case you or anyone else finds there is not enough clearance for the surface-mounted P-traps, as I did. (There are details/photos in my "Sunbeam ~ 22 Cruiser" thread.)
