State Considers Tolls to Fight Global Warming
OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) --- Two global warming bills that have passed the state House and are now in the Senate could lead to tolls on Puget Sound highways. The bills require the state to reduce greenhouse gases by cutting the number of miles traveled by vehicles. Money from the tolls, which would vary with traffic, could pay for more transit. Environmental groups support idea. The director of the Transportation Choices Coalition, Jessyn Farrell, says “congestion pricing” is a key piece of the puzzle. Farrell says it also could reduce traffic jams.

As the fuel prices continue to rise, I'm thinking that there won't be too many vehicles traveling the roads to pay the tolls. The toll booth attendant will be living a lonely life. :wink
 
:lol: You young people do not know this but 50 years ago the big hype was the coming of another [/b]ICE AGE[/b]. In my opinion this global warming is another hype for some just to make money and get rich. As gas prices rise there will be less cars on the road. I am already grouping my trips to the store so I do not make any unnecessary travel. I bought a Toyota Prius to save gas, do not play golf, stopped eating lunch just so I could save gas for my CD. :lol:
 
I am glad to see C-dory dory folks so savvy as to mention the ice age.

So the latest science is that the sun's activity is the cause for global worming or cooling not our carbon foot print. Yes I heard the groans of nay sayers. This is not to say we don't need to be concerned about now we treat the environment. But I would like to see it based in good science.

Thanks to the Al Gore bullshit, it is not pc to talk about anything but warming, so it will take a long time to refute his well spent facade. Some times it feels like we are arguing that the world is flat all over again.

I personally dont see how toll roads will lesson the traffic. You will have to bring toll booths, stop traffic to collect fines ect ect. I am in a van pool already, because busses take two hours to get to seattle. I don't want my commute any longer.

Assuming that it was ELF (which so far, indications are that it was), they certainly don't have a clue. Many things they "preach" against were violated this morning....ie: toxic smoke and heat pollution, pollution from all the fire apparatus and law enforcement vehicles running while battling the blazes, water that is expended in the effort, and of course the possible human toll that these acts can create...ie: pain and suffering from firefighter injuries with resulting medical bills, possibly death etc. etc.
Again if it was "ELF", it certainly coincides with the current legal trials going on presently in Seattle, and the recent deportation of the ELF individual back to Oregon from Canada for previous acts of terrorism.

IMHO any perpetrators of these acts should be locked up and the key thrown away!

(Other than the above, I don't have much of an opinion of ELF.. :wink )
 
What a load of BS, another corruption in our system going at it again to pick our pockets bone dry. A lot of us know that the contribution cars make to the green house gas effect is nothing compared to the other parts of the oil industry. What about the shipping system and the cow? The COWS!

I just find it very vivid sometimes how the environmentalist would back up anything to gain a win, even if means faking it. Backing up the toll system only gives sign, to me, that these environmentalists are doing nothing other than complain about the issue, find a safe win, and try to fix a symptom to their supposively goals to help better the environment; rather than fight the illness itself. Kinda like how our western style of medicine has led us to become. Now, don't even get me started with the health system we have here...OH BOY oh boy :crook

fish, its not about stopping a problem, if there is one, its about controlling you and your behavior. Its about them knowing more about what is good for you then you do. It's called social enginering. Ask the russians about it and see how it worked for them. It's the same type of thinking that wants to stop you from hunting , fishin, eating meat, boating, riding motorcycles, and living on your own land. If you want a look at the future they want please read Arthur C. Clarke's The city and the Stars. first written in 1956. Man can he see it coming or what.

This latest road bill is all about getting you to ride in buses that dont work and stop driving your own car. Its about getting you to move back to a city that no one want to raise childern in by making it hard to commute. (seattle schools are looseing kids every year and have been for a long time) How about moving the jobs were the poeple are? no to easy.

spray painting my fence with some stupid slogan is vandalism. Burning down homes, schools, car dealerships, forest ranger stations, cement trucks and logging mills not to mention spiking trees is terrorism.

Tom, you are absolutely correct....I edited my post to read "terrorism" instead of "vandalism".

One of the reasons that I am so passionate about this particular subject is that this mornings activities involved many friends of mine that put their lives on the line because of others' disregard for them.
 
Dave, the news was reporting that the fire fighters found booby traps. But it sounded more like more incendiary devices. have you heard anything?

As I understand it, the concern was of the POSSIBLILITY of booby traps, not that any were located. Anytime an arson fire occurs, it is on our minds that there is a possibility of booby traps as some demented minds don't want us to extinguish their fires. (Of course, in many instances we don't know it is arson until after an investigation occurs). As soon as I saw this fire on TV this morning, I immediately said "Arson" because of the number of homes involved. Additionally, you are probably well aware that we've had suspected ELF activity in Snohomish County before. (Likewise, when we sense that we have "stumbled" into a drug lab (be it for a medical call or a fire), the prudent thing is to back out in case the occupancy is booby trapped, to say nothing about the toxic chemicals that are located on the premises. There have been a number of Law Enforcement Officers that have experienced health issues due to toxic chemical exposures in drug lab raids in former years.
 
Well that was the funny think dave. the fire captain stated that they had found some in one house and had secondary explosions in the others. I just could not tell if there where set to hurt some one or where just other devices that had not gone off yet. And yes I remember the house that was burned down on camino island last year. The same group took responsibility for that one too. I have been following the new son this group,elf, for number of years. Not a very good way to get your point across. Nice to see that 3 of them have gone to jail in the last year.
 
Whether there were booby traps or not, I certainly don't know. One thing to bear in mind however is that on occasion we encounter exploding ammunition, oxygen tanks, acetylene tanks, and even the occasional empty beer keg..... :roll: (ie: expect the unexpected.... :mrgreen: )

Until the ELF is actually determined to be the guilty party, remember that the arsonist could be someone else making it look like it was the ELF.

I worked many years in the property insurance industry and the prime suspect in arson was the person (the owner) who wants to sell his property to the insurance company. This can happen if the owner winds up in an upside down financial position. Now, I am not saying this is true, just that it is a possibility.

The above is my opinion.

I worked as a firefighter for 14 years (second career) and never found anything funny in a fire. Mostly tragic and occasionally "odd" which is perhaps what you meant-but never funny.
