Tilt steering?

Hello, I recently purchased a 2013 22 cruiser. My steering wheel does not tilt up so I have a difficult time getting my right leg under the existing wheel and when I do I cant push the throttle forward because it hits my leg. My question is "Is this type of steering common or do most boater upgrade to tilt steering to remedy this problem. By the way I'm not a big guy 5"10 185. If I do need to upgrade to tilt steering is this a difficult exchange?

Thanks in advance.

The cheapest solution is to get a smaller diameter steering wheel.

Do you have hydraulic or mechanically linked steering? What brand?

Some manufactures have tilt kits that have a beveled collar that tilts the steering mechanism up at an angle to increase clearance.

Thank you for the suggestion of smaller wheel. That will help tremendously. I have hydraulic steering "teleflex" Seastar.
Thanks again

When I ordered Kerri On I specified Seastar Tilt Steering. It is great for when Carolyn and I change watch. I move it sometimes just to get a different angle for my arms on longer runs. I enjoy the tilt option Pricey retrofit but doable. Smaller wheel is cheaper.

I had the same problem when I installed a new helm seat..

The tilt steering unit is quite expensive... so I just made a angled wedge.

I also have a tilt unit in my car and truck.... and once I find the perfect angle I like, I never touch it again... so a plastic wedge works just fine.
