Things that go bump in the night

I am on the hook in Gig Harbor. I just finished a PM to a friend, and told them how nice and quiet it was here. 11pm, fire in the Dickenson, nice red wine. All of a sudden I had a visitor! Came up under the boat at the transom and rocked the boat as it hit near the outboard. Gave the boat two or three big jolts! Must have been a seal, but it didn't show itself. First time that has happened to me.
Sure got my attention.
Think I will have a little more wine.

It is a bit unnerving. Like the racoons out at Blake Island. Fearless, hungry, and grossly overweight. Or the otters at Coupeville.

We were in Gig Harbor this time last week with 6 other boats from our yacht club. I would have thought that the tsunami would have subsided by now :-)

"Giggy"?

We like Gig Harbor. Cool old town, nicely protected and good mud...

Had a mink crawl in the motor well after some fish cleaning scraps that I didn't get cleaned out. It stared at me then went after the scrap anyway and then left.
Flathead Lake).
Think I would have learned my lesson when an otter did the same thing only came up on my gear box ( mounted in the splash well) when I was on the hook in the San Juans .

We had a night visitor up in Canada last week while on Holiday. Got up in the middle of the night to check on things while anchored in Elcho bay and found a seal sleeping on our raft right beside the dory. We took flash pictures of him and shined a flashlight on him but he was determined. When we went back to bed he was still there. He was gone in the morning but he did leave a deposit for the stay. Whew! Smelly!

You have had your share of night visitors! I guess the seal knew a friendly boat to use as a haul out. Your girls are so lucky to experience all the wonderful trips that you have taken.

I just looked at Amy and Karl's album of their trip to the Discovery Coast. Wow! What a great trip! The seal in the inflatable was not even close to the best part! Check out the album, it is wonderful.

Thanks for sharing your trip. :thup :thup

Robbi - We have had otters visit us at the docks in Yellowstone at night time, and of course the mice seem to scamper up the mooring lines on occasion. Perhaps one night a grizzly will come snooping around. That will create some excitement, I'm sure. Happy boating. John & Edna

People who visit the Gulf Coast for the first time are often awakened by the "cracking" sound coming from their hull at night!

And then you learn it's the brine shrimp helping to keep your hull clean.

The two otters that climbed onboard our boat in the middle of the night in Bell Harbor in Seattle certainly got our attention. Molly when into full defense mode: "Nobody messes with my boat and my family!" :cat
