The Stranger

Sea Wolf Joe just posted a story entitled "The Stranger" on the thread "Daily Laugh".

I was going to comment on it on the "Daily Laugh" thread, however not wanting to clutter up the continuity of that thread with comments I chose to create a new thread to share a comment.

Joe, that is quite a story and many if not all of us can relate to when this "Stranger" first entered our homes. At first (at least in our home) we could only locate him on one selection of the dial and of course he only visually appeared to us in black and white and often his features were somewhat grainy. As I remember, we were the LAST family in our neighborhood to welcome him in to our home. I don't know for certain, but I suspect that since my dad was a minister, that perhaps that was the reason we were the last.

Thanks Joe, for sharing the story.

I too remember that in order to alter the stranger, we had to get up, walk across the room and convince him by hand. We often had to resort to alum foil on his head to head him see more clearly. Growing up in Hawai'i, the stranger's stories were always one week behind the mainland; seems back then the stranger did not have satelites in orbit to transmit live storie to our state. (I kid you not). I remember my father finally giving in (more likely being able to finally afford) a new stranger...a colored stranger (well THAT doesn't sound right :?). I thought it fascinating back then. There was no HD, no surround sound...no 500+ channels. We had three. But then instead of sitting there all day, listening to & watching the stranger, we played outside, climbed trees, went surfing, rode our bikes, played sports.

Mark, the stranger entered our house about 4 years before Hawaii became a state. Most likely the stranger told us about the big event! I'm thinking that you were born after Hawaii became a state however so you didn't know otherwise.... .

I debated myself for awhile as to where to post The Stranger.

It's (TV's) enormous impact of of very serious consideration, all the while ironic in that it seemed so innocuous at the beginning.

Funny in that respect, at least to me.

How long was it in the reading before you realized The Stranger was going to turn out to be TV?

Joe. :teeth :thup
