Teleflex Seastar Hydr. Steering

Jack in Alaska

I have a 26' CD with a 200HP Honda on a bracket. Seastar steering.
When the boat was hauled on the trailer from W. Palm Beach Fla. to Anchorage, Alaska the seals on the steering cylinders wore out and leaked badly. I replaced both seals, refilled the system and bled the lines as specified. It worked well but the motor had some "play" when centered.
Today my friend and I bled the lines again. Had a few bubbles on one side but clear on the other. We did it 3 times on each side and no bubbles on the last bleed. The steering is tight when turned to either side but still loose in the center. The cylinder moves approx. 1/2". How can this be eliminated??
When centered the motor moves with just the slightest turn (approx. 1") of the wheel.
Thx.
Jack

Charlie,
Thx. for the tip. I will call them today as we are just getting 40 knot winds and 9' seas. Not a fishing day for this boy. Looking for a project.

What is the deal on your TC switching. You are selling your 2006 and bought Bob's 2006.? Is there some kind of improvement between the two??? What is Bob doing for boats??
I wish that I could meet Bob someday and for that matter you also. There are quite a few CD owners here in Alaska with a few being passionate owners but most just use them and cover them up for winter.

Hopefully Teleflex will help me out.

Thx. again,

Jack,

I have a lot of play in the middle of my Seastar system. I have replaced seals on both sides and bled the system. My impression it's in the helm pump assembly. It's five years old and may need to be replaced. I have the same issue on a 28 ft Jetcraft in Ninilchik with twin Honda 150's. It looks like I might be getting two of them.

the helm pump can be rebuilt
Google
