Teak Substitute

Since I am not having much luck finding teak, is there another type of wood (preferrably a hardwood) that looks reasonably similar to Teak but more readily available. I want to use it to hang curtains in the cabin and gear hammocks in the v-berth and various other projects.

Thanks for any opinions.

Rob,

Try searching Ebay for "Teak Lumber" I have have purchased several times from: gym_bob_in_maine. This seller usually has slates or battens for sale that are ideal for what I believe you need. The teak for all of my C-Dory projects I got from him. Cherry when it ages also looks a like teak

Best regards,

There is a wood in the Northwest that many of us know as Alder. Many people consider it a weed. Most people do not know this, but many pieces of furniture that is sold as Oak, Cherry, Maple, and many other hardwoods is really Alder. The nice thing about Alder is it can be made to look like just about any Hardwood and even some Softwood by putting a proper stain on it.
