Tax Day: Come fishing on the Slammer in Westport!

An open invite to fish on the Slammer in Westport this Monday, April 15.
This boat has been featured on "Hog Quest" a few times and they use light tackle to catch sea bass and live bait, usually, for ling cod.

My buddy and I have been waiting to book a day when the ocean is not heaving and churning and the boat not packed full. Well, Monday, April 15 looks good, especially since it's tax day  and a good way to forget about them taxes! :D

See this link:

They have 18 more spots with 20 the full load. Would be fun to have some more C-Brats on board!

Sea bass and Ling cod.
Limit of sea bass: 10
Limit of ling cod: 2

No slot limit on lings and you better buy a derby ticket on a charter or it's guaranteed a big one and you'll be crying 'cuz you didn't buy a ticket. :cry Happens more often than you think!

I went out of Westport on a charter last Tuesday. I was a volunteer fisher, along with seven others, and we caught black rockfish (sea bass) for the WDFW Rockfish tagging program. There were five WDFW workers who tagged, measured and released the fish we caught. We caught 150 in the first 20 minutes of fishing, and caught a total of 474 in 2 hours and 30 minutes!

We hooked a few lings, and had a few that attached themselves to a hooked rockfish. One blue rockfish, one yellowtail, one canary and one salmon were also hooked.

The black rockfish were between 42 and 58 cm. The bigger ones i was told, are close to 40 years old. The fish that you retain will be checked for tags after they are cleaned on your charter boat.

It was a blast! You should have a great time.

Robbi,

Yes, I have heard those trips are really fun, would like to do that in the future, but I need some cod for fish tacos, fish n chips, bbq cod, blackened cod...kind of sounds like Bubba in Forrest Gump!

We are going on a boat that specializes in light tackle for the bass, which should be a hoot!

I did that trip last year with the wdfw. It was a blast. I was hoping to go again this year but my email changed and I lost contact with the guy that was running it.

It is $130 per person on all the Deep Sea Charter boats, I believe that is the standard rate for all the boats down there. If you want them to fillet it is $6 for a limit of 10 rockfish and $4 each for lingcod.
