Tall Ships

I was in Victoria yesterday watching the parade of Tall Ships preparing to enter the Inner Harbour. I spotted a C-Dory playing around the ships. It was too far away to identify, but it looked to be a 22 footer and, although I was looking into the sun, it looked like it had a cream or white coloured hull with a red boot stripe.

Paul, I don't know who that was in the C-Dory, but it got me thinking about the Tall Ships events on the West Coast this summer. There will be many opportunities for C-Dorys along the Pacific Coast to see these wonderful sailboats. The web site for the 2005 Tall Ships and the Pacific Tall Ships Challenge has some good information for activities from British Columbia to California. http://sailtraining.org

The ships will be visiting Tacoma starting on June 30th. They will be doing a big sail parade along Ruston Way and Old Town starting at 1pm. Then they dock or anchor out from the 1st of July to through the 4th.

They will be leaving from Quartermaster Harbor on Vashon to sail to the Parade. I am thinking that I will go to Quartermaster on the night of the 29th and anchor out, and be there for the gathering of some pretty impressive sailboats. Then motor along as they sail towards the parade area. Anyone interested in joining me? Should be fun for those interested in those big beautiful boats. Robbi

Tacoma's web site for the event is http://www.tallshipstacoma.com

I haven't really said a whole lot about the Tall Ships coming ,but we will have C-Dory represented in the thing... We are involved throught the Tacoma Outboard Association, and will be a Parade Escort Boat, as well as a Patrol Vessel, and a Daily Escort for those Ships giving Day Sailings.
Laurie is going to be a Ship's Liason for the North Star of Herschel Island, while I am doing the on the water stuff with the Laurna Jo.
I believe the C-Dory Viking Lady will be working in the Tall Ships Festival also.
Hope to see you all out there!!

Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard, CA is celebrating it's 40th aniversary this year and one of the celbration events will be a gathering of tall ships at the beginning of August, followed by a tall ship race as they depart for points south. Should be a great opportunity for some fine photos.
